A small establishment featuring Filipino-Chinese cuisine. From delicious appetizers like Lumpia Sariwa, Kikiam and Tokwa't Baboy to soups and sizzling plates, chargrilled meats and skewers, as well as whole fried chicken or oxtails, pork hocks, milkfish, stuffed whole tilapia or even the Philippine style meatloafs, all of them are prepared skillfully and tastefully. Finish off your meal with a cassava cake, custard, pudding, or a large portion of shaved ice with ice cream.
There are various "chinese" dishes offered but mostly made with a filipino flair.
Plenty of free parking in the back general parkade area, as well as free street parking along Fraser St. or at the side street since the restaurant is located conveniently near the corner (2nd door down).

A great place to eat Filipino (Chinese-style) if you can't make Filipino food at home or you're just lazy. I really like coming in and having the Chicken Mami soup (Chicken Noodle) with ad appetizer and my wife loves their Topsilog (Fried Beef, Fried Rice, Fried Egg). My family really enjoys their Pancit Miki Bihon (Pan fried noodles). And for dessert, don't forget to leave some room for their Halo-Halo (Shaved ice with beans, condensed milk, and ice cream) or Buko Pandan (Young coconut dessert) |

It seems as if the only reason this restaurant is so busy and talked about is because it's the only filipino restaurant in the area. The food is decent although not worth the wait or price. The service is lack-luster, the waitresses are slow and don't pay much attention to the needs of the customers, when I asked for water I didn't receive it until I was almost done eating. The same goes for sauces, if you're ordering something with sauce, ask for the sauce as you order otherwise you won't get it until much later. The leche flan and halo halo are of the few satisfying dishes they have to offer. Also, the menu is jam-packed with unnecessary items and is quite difficult to clearly understand. The biggest disappointment was the Sisig. Don't get me wrong, their sisig is probably one of the best I've ever had but if you want to order it, you should probably be the first one at the store because by lunch time, they have none left. Whether this is because they receive a mass amount of orders or they just simply don't buy the ingredients I don't know but for the last 5-6 times I have been there (to order the sisig and the sisig alone mind you) they have "run out of it". To sum it up, good average restaurant, good leche flan and halo halo, great sisig but never in stock, service needs to be better and the owner looks angry/unhappy at all times, doesn't seem like a very friendly person. |

I recommend this restaurant to my kapwa Filipinos who are visitng from the US. I am cautious about recommending this to other nationalities as this restaurant is not up to international standards yet. No ambience, poor service (filipino style), no consistency in quality.

however, pinpin is the exception. everything is decently priced, decent portions and tastes like home cooking =)
as for the waitresses, they seem like they're gawking at you. but, for anyone who has been to the philippines, this is usually how waiters/waitresses are trained. for them to be watching you is considered to be good service, so don't be alarmed. |

The place is right outside a busstop so it is very accesible though the place itself is pretty crowded and small so sometimes you have to wait for people to finish eating to get a seat.
The service of the waitresses was okay. It was not that good because they take a long time to attend to you. After you order, the food takes quite a while before you get it.
The food is awesome mostly due to the large portion servings you get, and the price is pretty cheap too. We always ask fro take out boxes because there's just so much that we can't finish the food. The sweet and sour fish is really good as well as their Bicol Express. One food I did not like was their "bangus bistec" or milkfish steak. It was served in a sizzling plate and looked really good but lo and behold, when I took a bite it tasted like "daing" and they just added the sauce. That was my first time ordering that food from PinPin so I dont know if they just ran out of fish that day and decided to substitute "daing" (marinated sour fish) or they just really serve it like that but it was very sour and really weird tasting. I love their leche flan because it is very sweet and tasty and a really good dessert. All in all they have good food with huge portion sizes and cheap prices. |

The first time I went, my boyfriend and I made the mistake of ordering waaay too much as we are accustomed to Filipino restaurant's smaller portions. We ordered Sinigiang with pork, Pork BBQ, Lumpiang Shanghai, Calderetta, and Garlic rice and yes it was waay too much but we had lunch and dinner for the next two days. The food was so delicious, I was blown away, felt like I was back in the Philippines.
I will return to this restaurant regularly but for me to bring other people there, they will need to do something with their decor. It's in dire need of a makeover. |

It’s a common sight for customers to be waiting outside for a table even in unpleasant weather condition. The seating arrangement is tight as they are maximizing the use of their space.
If they could move to a bigger place and improve their customer service, I would go to Pinpin more often. |

Any good reviews that have gone in is probably from the owner or friends and family of the owner. The waitress was rude, and the people in there were rude as well, customers included (must've been friends or family). I don't normally feel out of place in any kind of restaurant but when you have a rude waitress, and other people in there staring at you, you start to feel a little alienated. Then the food came, god, was it horrible, stale glass noodles, rotten meat ( i swear it was rotten). I politely brought it up with the waitress, and she just yelled at me! Criticizing how rude i was that i basically insulted the cook. Come on, what ever happened to customer is always right! If anyone wants good filipino food, this is not the place for it! |

One of my fellow co-workers suggested this restaurant to me...been putting it off for the last month...so myself and a buddy of mine decided to check out Filipino food. Its a small restaurant across the street from Buy Low Foods. Parking was easy...just go to the rear for free 2 hour parking. We decided for 2pm lunch..just to avoid the lunch rush.(The last time I drove by there...hugh lineup at 5ish.) Got in and seated in no time. Service was solid..eventhough one the servers looked fried...Im guessing it was a hectic lunch hour or two. Ambiance...okay...nice pics of the fish market in the Phillipines. The FOOD...our order were Lumpia Shanghai (mini egg rolls), Inigaio Na Tagyang Ng Baka (chargrilled beef shortrib with a sweet garlic sauce), Sisig (pork with onion), and Pancit Canton (egg noodles with assorted veggies and meat). All were delicious especially the shortribs...smoky and sweet...the meat was fork tender!! The sisig was pretty good...super bacon flavor and taste..reminds me of the Chinese roasted pork but much finer in texture. My only complain..we did not have dessert...would have love to try the casava cake or Leche flan...oh well...definitely a next time. Our bill came up to $50 bucks with tip...and dogged bagged the rest for my dinner tomorrow. |

But the waitresses need to practice to smile more often to their customers and even the owner of pinpin. Everytime I visit pinpin and order food for take out, I notice that the owner yell to her staff. That's a turn-off... The place is a bit small and people would line-up from outside. |
| Added Apr 13, 2008 by SharonLeila of Vancouver B.C (3 Reviews) Great home cooked filipino food - Snotty service! The food and price is Great! but...
The restaurant is TOO SMALL - in need of a renovation for a large capacity of people to eat inside (frequent line-up crowds infront of the entrance door)
POOR service - the servers look unhappy with their jobs to help you, they need to smile more often! I dislike the fact how us customers have to bag our own left-overs isn't that a waitresses job? |
| Added Feb 2, 2008 by hungry_hippo of Richmond, BC (17 Reviews) Best Filipino restaurant in town The sisig here is to die for! You have to go mid-week though because if you go during the weekends, its likely that they're run out already. It's that good! Everything else I have tried is great as well like their Bicol Express, Pusit, etc. |

Of and for dessert we ALWAYS share halo-halo. A good thing about their halo-halo is that they serve it with ice cream AND UBE!!! yum yum! |
| Added Nov 6, 2007 by asian-qt of Vancouver (8 Reviews) Overrated My co-worker and I heard that PinPin Restaurant was a great place to go for lunch and so we did.
We were starving so we ended up ordering more than we can eat, which would not be a problem since we could just take home the left overs. We tried palabok, laing, lumpiang shanghai, pork barbeque and cassava cake. The lumpiang shanghai was nearly burnt on the outside, but the meat inside was still raw. The palabok noodle dish didn't have any taste. The laing (taro leaves in coconut milk) was sour and it was cold in the middle. I had an upset stomach within the hour due to this spoiled dish (this I know because my co-worker did not eat this dish). The cassava tasted raw too! The only saving grace was the pork barbeque, which turned out to be half okay and half burnt.
The service was none to speak of. The ladies who were served us woud not give us water to drink and gave us the take out containers to pack the left overs on our own. We could also hear the owner/s yell at their staff.
The place is not to my liking. I think it is definitely overrated. |
| Added Oct 29, 2007 by sage_mom of Port Moody, BC (8 Reviews) Soul Food PinPin is the kind of restaurant you'd go to if you want a good meal that will hit the spot without bruising your wallet. The lineup of people outside the door tells you something - I've never seen this happen at a Filipino restaurant. Admittedly the ambiance is a bit lacking, but who cares. You'll be so busy licking your plate that you won't even notice. The service is attentive, the food came quickly, servings were generous, and the food absolutely delicious. I can't wait to go back. (Tip: Go for the grilled platters). |

| Added Mar 12, 2007 by lazyhusband of Burnaby (30 Reviews) A little overrated So it was that time of year again, my friend's birthday and a new restaurant to try. This year's selection was Pinpin.
As always on our birthdays, we like to go all out so we ordered the lumpia (spring rolls, 12 mini ones), garlic rice, crispy pata, tadyang ng baka, sisig, bicol express, some eggplant salad, halo halo and the jello with coconut.
I thoroughly enjoyed the crispy pata, tender pieces of pork hock along with a great sauce that goes good with the rice. We were told that there would be an extra $1 charge to make it crispy, which was a little confusing since the menu did say crispy pata and not pata (so no idea how that works!). Lumpia was a good appy starter. The baka was tender with lots of sauce and very interesting taste. Bicol express was solid, goes good with rice but probably slightly too coconutty for me and didn't find it that spicy (I can handle spicy so this was kind of mild!).
Now for the ones that I think are over-rated. First, the sisig. What is this dish? Tiny little pieces of meat cooked on a hot plate with onions, really not that much flavour. Eggplant salad (can't remember the name) was bland. They give you this salty fish paste with it and I gave it a taste - UM NO THANKS! Halo halo, it was ok but honestly, rather go get a HONE DOW BING at Golden Oscar. They cheap out on the red beans and although big, didn't taste as good as the chinese drink. It also had these other beans in there that added no flavor to it. And then the recommendation by the manager, some dessert with shaved coconut and jello. According to her, better than the halo halo. Well let me say this, IT SUCKED. Had not taste, jello was not sweet, coconut was not sweet, and whatever else was in there was not sweet. Terrible thing to recommend to non flips.
Service - you have to ask to get.
Overall, worth a visit but not as AMAZING as everyone says it is. I gave it 2 and 3 because it is decent to solid in my opinion but not outstanding. |
| Added Oct 31, 2006 by uncle_junior of Cambie, Vancouver (10 Reviews) Best Filipino food so far Their crispy tadyang ng baka (beef ribs) is to die for, together with the crispy pata, sisig, pinakbet, and the tokwa't baboy.
The kare-kare can stand some improvement but it's already even better than some restaurants in Manila can come up with. The sinigang wasn't that great.
Their leche flan is awesome - reminds me of how it was made in my home. Try the halo-halo but instead of topping it with ice cream mix about half a leche flan into it - calories be damned! |
| Added Sep 9, 2006 by tahititradewinds of Southeast Vancouver (4 Reviews) Pin Pin Restaurant for a Hungry Family! We stopped by to dine at a Pinoy / Filipino Pin-Pin Restaurant located in Vancouver August 19, 2006 . My wife's co-workers had been raving about the food there, especially the super-sized halo-halo.
This evening we had daing, sisig, sinigang and bicol express. The sisig was to die for, ie. deliciously crunchy and tasy. The Bicol Express was spicy yet bearable and also tasty. My daughter loved it. I think she inherited my love of hot spicy foods. Our sinigang was too lemony, as my wife remarked.
The waitress was somewhat friendly. Overall, the ambience was comfortable, almost home-like cozy. It's a small restaurant, but apparently it's popular. There were at least 15 people waiting outside when we came in at about 6:45pm, and there were around 8 people waiting when we left 1 hour later.
Yummy! |
| Added Jul 17, 2006 by BalikbayanBox of Vancouver (1 Reviews) Pin Pin Restaurant Pin Pin restaurant's is located just a round the corner of a Dollar Store. With ample parking space behind the building my sister didnt have a hardtime trying to find one. Another good free parking is located on the other end for a local grocery store.
Infront of Pin Pin's a bus stop that connects bus riders from end to end of Fraser St. The main entrance is flocked by hungry patrons like me and my sisters. As we waited for our turn, we couldnt help but noticed the pictures hanging on the walls of the resto. From a street ice cream vendor, a "palengke" picture, "kalesa" and a lot of Filipino traditions nice caught in camera. My sisters and i nooded in agreement that it is a brilliant idea to do that.
Unlike other Filipino restaurant here in Vancouver, Pin Pin's food wasnt displayed in a "turo turo" style eatery. It is all in the written down in the menu with all those sumptous pictures ready for some hungry eyes to feast. Except for halo halo and other desserts which were neatly placed in a glass fridge.
The waitresses are wearing red Pin Pin shirt and jeans. They are helpful and used tagalog in welcoming us. The tables and chairs are made of wood. As we were seated we were given white plates with spoon, fork and the white napkin. Next came the glasses water. The rice is placed inside a red bucket for $5.00 which was more than enough for the three of us. In Pin pin meat (which is supposedly "the secret ingredients") is cut just like the size of the tokwa. And the sauce doesnt help the taste either. We also had Bicol Express ( for those who love spicy food) and Ensaladang talong which is taste so heavenly and the presentation was an 8 thats coming from sister whos very hard to please. Overall Pin pin Restaurant is a break from the usual Vancouver Filipino restaurants. Go ahead sit down and enjoy these new Filipino Chinese restaurant! |
| Added Jul 6, 2006 by meekus of Richmond (1 Reviews) Fantabulous Can anyone say 'Bitcol Express'? Because I can, and if you haven't tried it, let me say one thing: it is a must. Truthfully, I haven't tried a lot of other filipino restaurants. However, this one blew me away. My family and I come here often. What with the prices being so low, and the food so tasty, it's no wonder the place is jam-packed with people (not to mention the huge line up out the door). It is a rather small restaurant, but I'm quite sure that in no time, the owners will expand their flooring to offer their fantastic food to their eager (and by then grateful) customers.
To whomever loves filipino cuisine, this place is great. While the atmosphere is quite plain (although, it is a treat to see the photographs of Philippine culture against the wall -- they have one of a jeepney!), the food is tasty as well as cheap, a combination no one can complain about. The place itself is quite clean as well!
In addition, the Chinese food (especially the siopaos) is just as delicious.
I greatly recommend this restaurant. Two thumbs (and feet) up! |
| Added Jun 24, 2006 by chasiubow of North Van (673 Reviews) Pinpin for Din Din! My wife and I were looking for something new, so we gave the place a try. There was a big line of people waiting outside and a full house inside, and they all happened to be Filipinos, so we figured this must be the real deal.
After a short wait we were inside. We were not disappointed. We had the calamares appetizer, which had big tender pieces of squid in a light batter, then we moved on to the pork binagoonan (pork in shrimp paste sauce) accompanied by pancit miki bihon (2 kinds of noodle with vegetable). Wow it was all great! Apparently, Philippine cuisine is not spicy but usually sweet, which Mrs. Chasiubow claims is the reason for the friendliness of most Filipinos.
I don’t know about that, but the staff was incredibly friendly and they made good eye contact, which is something my tribe could work on. We also found the restaurant to be extremely clean, and very new-looking. The food arrived quickly, and the presentation was very good. I did think $2.50 for the canned coconut water was a bit much (it is 3 for 1.99 at the market across the street), and I was extremely sorry that they ran out of corn pudding, but overall we had a very positive experience. This is as good as I have had anywhere. Highly recommended!

| Added Jun 3, 2006 by gfparas of vancouver (3 Reviews) Pinpin Restaurant Filipino Cuisine My friend had told me about this new Filipino restaurant in town - Pinpin. So I went to check it out. Boy, was I pleased! Though I found the waiters/waitresses unapproachable and rushing you, the food was great! They have the best crispy pata around - crispy indeed but with a lot of tasty meat that seems to melt in your mouth, not very expensive AND the plate comes full. They don't have bopis on the menu and their palabok is a waste of money. Too bad but so what! Everything else is quite good. The menu is not bad for choices either. There's sisig, lumpia (spring rolls), sinigang (sour soup - very good!), and lots more of the Filipino dishes I crave and miss not being in the Philippines and not being of the cooking kind.
The best desert they have are the halo-halo (shaved ice with ice cream and fillings like jello, red beans, macapuno, etc) and leche flan (creme brule). I say these are the best because they're big servings and usually good for 2, some other Filipino restaurants give small servings. The other deserts are very delicious as well.
Not much to say about the ambience. The restaurant is very small and for the amount of diners waiting for tables, I figure it won't be too long until they can move to a bigger place. The bathroom (the ladies' bathroom anyway) is clean and well-maintained which is equally important to the food they serve! If the bathroom is dirty and bathrooms are only used for a few things, what about heavy traffic areas like their kitchen, u know what I mean?
Inexpensive, surprisingly good Filipino food, Pinpin is worth the wait. Keep up the good work, Pinpin, but not the price.

| Added Mar 25, 2006 by foodfanatic of South Vancouver (295 Reviews) Consistently delicious! They've only just opened earlier this year and wow! Packed full nearly every evening (they're closed Mondays as I've hit the door twice on such a day thinking I'd sit in to eat) they are packed full (very small place)! There are sometimes a table or two free for a while, but they tend to get filled fast by walk-ins. Not sure if they take reservations.
I always try to order something different on the menu between eating in & ordering for pickup. Such unbelievably great value, too. Haven't tried the Chinese dishes they offer that are of the sweet & sour variety & pork buns, wonton, etc.. While it seems to be run mainly by Filipinos, I'm not sure how the Chinese part fits in. The appetizers range from a measely $1.95-$6.95. Their entrees average out to be $7 (some a couple $'s less, some $'s more). Where else can you get a whole tilapia/milfish for 6.50-9/10.50? You usually get gauged for even an inexpensive fish like that. The vinagry citrus sauce they provide to go with certain fish dishes go so well to mask the "fishiness" of it and make it juicy sweet with a hint of sour--seems to work better than squeezing lime juice by itself! Can't honestly vouch on authenticity since I am not at all familiar with filipino cuisine, but I can definitely vouch for the flavours and the constant 90% of patrons are of Philippine origin. They have the JUICIEST BBQ chicken skewer I've had in a LONG while. You can taste the BBQ-ness of it as well as the sweet juiciness of the chicken itself. Yummy! Food preparation seems quick. Everything except the rice was served perfectly warm. I've been waiting until I got to actually sit in to eat before posting a review since they were all takeout experiences prior, and boy did they secure yet another returning patron for as long as they keep up the quality, and not to mention, value! This experience has gotten me interested in trying the different filipino offerings around town. |
