Breezy and informal as its namesake, this L-shaped room features a small patio in front, padded booths inside, an eclectic mix of Top 40 hits, and a menu of reasonably priced drinks and casual bites. It’s sandwiched between theatre row and a smattering of nightclubs, so if the TV monitors aren’t playing anything that catches your eye, the nightly street show of drunken clubbers will.

Here is my warning to stay away from the Speakeasy on Granville street. The night we were there it wasn't busy and we still waited for ten minutes for someone to our table. Drinks were average but i thought expensive for what you get, 20$ for a pitcher of some no name speakeasy lager. I guess thats why it's called a dive bar. The food is what got me , where is the love ? Brutal natchos that you can't finish because they were dry , overcooked and hard.Bad bad pasta that has no taste. The service made me feel like they didn't care about the customer at all but rather they were just in it to take your money. |

After enjoying a Canucks game with a large group of friends and paying a $700 bill, most people stood up to wander and socialise. The few ppl left at our table were asked to move to a smaller table, fair enough. Two of our female friends, after moving, were then told that they needed to purchase another alcoholic drink or they would have to leave. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I will remind the reader that we had paid a $700 bill 20mins earlier. After poiting out that it was illegal to force ppl to drink more alcohol if they didnt want to, the waitress proceeded to start SCREAMING at out friends to get out. We politley asked to talk to the manager. The 20-something manager came over and joined in with the waitress, for some reason SCREAMING at my friends to leave. We were eventually escorted out, while we observed a group of ridiculously drunk fellas hurling glasses across the bar without so much as a second look from management. Apparently this is acceptable behaviour if you continue to purchase alcohol.
This was an extremely disappointing end to what was a fun night, and our group has not returned.
If you like being abused by waitresses, go to the Elbow Room, at least there you can have a laugh about it. |

| Added Dec 30, 2008 by doodlebug of vancouver (43 Reviews) good pizza We were there on a busy UFC night. After paying a $10 cover charge, we were seated at a nice booth. We ordered some yummy pizzas and not-so-good nachos. I recommend staying away from the cocktails; they're very watered down. The server was mostly pleasent but was around way too much and wiped our table down with some sort of stinky cleaner mid-meal. |

| Added Nov 14, 2008 by customer604 of Vancouver (1 Reviews) Service is always a JOKE! Every time we go there (and I don't know why we go back) we get the worst possible service. The waitresses are always rude, they don't care at all about the customers. All they are concerned with is getting their money and going home. They are cows who wont even look you in the eye when you are talking to them. You will be lucky if you even get served on a Friday or Saturday night. Guys always get first priority because the waitresses can get more money out of guys. The last time we went the service was so horrible we decided that we wouldn't leave a tip (we tip when we feel the server deserves it)... We gave the cash to the waitress and we waited, and waited, and waited... she kept walking by pretending she was too busy to stop and give us our change... well we kept waiting and then she finally said "oh do you need your change"... we said "yes please" and then we waited again... she expected us to just leave without the change so we sat for what seemed like forever, she came back and asked AGAIN "are you sure you need your change?" at that point we said to each other, "in this moment she is the same as a beggar on the street" HOW PATHETIC!!!! My partner had enough we just shook our heads and left... what a shame. |

| Added Nov 11, 2008 by jarrenm of vancouver (1 Reviews) what a waste of time As there is no section for the Speakeasy on Granville st I would like to submit something about the new location on Davie st. We walked in on the holiday at mid day. We were not really greeted that warmly and told to sit where we wanted to. Everything went well at the begging but the problems started when we place out order. We waited for about 35 minutes for our salad and fries and my friend ordered a sandwich. Because we were only one of four tables in the whole place i thought our food would be quite quick. Boy i was wrong! So about 35 minutes later i went up to our waiter and asked when our food would be ready. We were given a very snotty response that our food was the next to come and that the chef was new and how embarrased they were. So we waited and waited. About 15 minutes after that I had finally had enough. It does not take 45 minutes to throw a ceasar salad toether and put some fries in the deepfryer. So we walked out. So as were leaving our server says that hes sorry and the next time we are in he would buy us a drink. I informed him that there would be no next time. Please if your reading this dont waste you time. Davie st needs better quality places not the dump that has taken up residence. After all that i have discovered that we were not an isolated incident. Everyone that i have spoken to that has been there has had similar experiences.

My friend and I decided to stop here for brunch/lunch.The restaurant was pretty dead, we sat near the front and I asked to see the lunch menu. The waitress gave it to me, but gave us a spiel about how the cook couldn't make breakfast and lunch simultaneously, so we would have to both order the breakfast or both order the lunch? I didn't really get it, I just wanted a salad, so the server said "I'll check with the chef."
The regular coffee - not your latte or cappucino is listed as $4! A bit ridiculous, but my friend shrugged it off and ordered one anyways with milk not cream. To which our waitress replied that they don't actually have milk, none of their dishes have milk. At that point, we just told her we'd eat elsewhere and left. |

| Added Mar 3, 2008 by epicurious of Burnaby, BC (523 Reviews) Loud I came here about a week ago - the hostess was checking ID at the door like a bouncer. This is a first for me. I got to try some appies and will probably return to try some other food items. They also had some interesting cocktails. The grape knee-high(?) was tasty, however the muff-driver was reported to be weirdly gross - whip cream with minty watermelon??
Yam fries were nice a crispy and came with a good curry-type dip.
I wasn't overly crowded in there, but add a few large groups and it was really hard to hear your table's conversations. They offered free cheesy calendars for the taking - don't know if that's a good thing or bad. |

I had the Austrailian burger--a nice juicy lamb burger with feta cheese. I really enjoyed it! Very nice quality and and fresh tasting. The waitress was friendly and prompt. Casual pub style atmosphere, great burgers! I'll be back. |

| Added Nov 23, 2007 by Toner969 of Yaletown vancouver (1 Reviews) Wow that was bad. We just had a meal with some friends to watch the game at the speakeasy, and I was so appalled at all the dishes that were served that I joined this site. I ordered a $20 8 oz steak that was over cooked, and one of the lowest quality cuts of meat I have ever had in a restaurant in Vancouver anywhere. A pizza and a hawian chicken burger were also ordered and both were well below expectations for any pub or tapas bar i have ever been to . When I did mention that my steak was 'bloody terrible' the waitress shrugged in ambivalence and sauntered off. I can not honestly believe how bad the whole experience was. |
