will go back soon!
Wow! I don't know why it took me so long to get to this place. Don't be fooled by the humble exterior. The food, service, and ambience are GREAT.

We ordered the mogo chips to start off with. Delicious. I don't know of anywhere besides Vij's in Vancouver where you can get mogos...and Vij's doesn't even have them anymore! As for the veggies dishes...I'm a vegan, so I was over the moon! Great Bartha, excellent okra, and tangy veggie vindaloo. The best Indian food I've had on the North Shore, and perhaps the best traditional I've had in Vancouver.

We had a great bottle of Riesling too, and our server, Lalite, was super helpful. I'd happily recommend this place, and can't wait to go back myself :)

Recommended!
tried this restaurant for the first time and i will be coming back.
I went here on a the weekend and it was busy but the servers were attentive and seated us quickly. the food was great especially the butter chicken ( the best that I've had in a while) and i was surprised to find that they had a great wine list to compliment their food. service was good and the price was reasonable too. ill be back for sure!

First Visit to Restaurant
My son and I decided to try another curry restaurant in North Vancouver and Mumbai Masala was recommended to us.

Both of us consider ourselves "butter king" experts and although the dish lacked salt, we were satisfied with the meal.

We visited the restaurant on a (very) quiet Monday night and although we enjoyed the restaurant to ourselves, our server was not attentative to our need for salt and extra water.

The price of the meal for two (without liquor) came to $35 with the gratuity. Good value for a pleasant evening and we will be back.

not so hot
I went to MM for some takeout because the weather was just too nice to cook. I tried the online ordering and it went quite smoothly. When I got to the restaurant I took a moment to check it out. Nicely decorated, clean, lots of staff.

I got my order from the friendly server and was on my way. I had lamb curry, butter chicken, and some garlic naan bread. The naan bread was okay, but a little hard. The butter chicken was a little bland, but the lamb curry had tender chunks of lamb in a savory curry sauce. However, as a previous reviewer remarked, they put tons of sauce and not enough meat. Must be a cost cutting measure. That was a disappointment.

All in all not awful, but there were some big shortcomings. I won't be back.

Left a sour taste in my mouth ...
Was looking for parking on Lonsdale to eat somewhere and happened to find a spot right in front so decided to try it as they had a lunch buffet and I've been meaning to try this place for a long time.

The buffet was $8.95 which is a great price for a buffet. Thought it might just be vegetarian but was surprised to find 2 meat dishes. I was however dissapointed in the food. There wasn't a single dish that I thought was particularly tasty, and I usually love Indian food. One dish seemed like butter beef, which was a bit weird to me. A basket of fresh naan arrived and I was looking forward sopping up the rest of my sauce with it. However, the naan tasted funny to me, I'd say it actually tasted like sourdough naan if there was such a thing. My wife then commented how sour it was too without me saying anything so I wasn't imagining it. Maybe its not bad but it was not what I was looking forward to eating. This was also the first time I've went for a buffet that I never returned for a second helping if that says anything.

Service was OK but they brought me a coke instead of the diet coke I asked for. Otherwise they seemed friendly.

Compared to the food and selection at the Saffron in Burnaby this buffet paled in comparison. The selection is similar at All India in west van, but I found their food much tastier, and service/ambience better as well. So All India is my current north shore pick. Palki isn't that great in my opinion either.

For the price, I guess you can't complain though. Even my pop was only $1.50. I mean a meal at McDonalds costs about the same and I might rather take the Indian. I don't think I will ever return but if I was in the area and poor and starving it would be OK.

Good but inconsistent
I had a few meals at MM with friends just after it first opened. It was excellent, with great food and plenty of space on the table - which is essential for sharing a selection of curries with friends. More recently the curries have a bit too much sauce for my taste - but this seems to be quite a common approach with the Indian restaurants I have been to in Vancouver. I would like to see a few more raw fresh spices in the meals such as fresh chillis and ginger. That said, the flavours of the curries are really good and the atmosphere is relaxed and spacious.

Good Lunch Buffet
A great way to try Indian food if you don't know what you like. They normally have 2 meat dishes (beef and chicken) and about 3 vegetarian dishes. Some cold salads to start, basmati rice and naan bread. Very good deal at $9 for lunch and very quick as the food is already prepared.

Overall I would say the lunch fare is pretty standard in terms of quality.

Best Indian in a while!
I love this place! I've been here over a dozen times and I keep coming back for the flavors and the prices. The food is tasty, fresh and relatively cheap. The Chicken Masala, Vindaloo, Dal, Chana Masala, Lamb Korma & Garlic Naan are all regular choices. But try the Tandoori Lamb (one of the more expensive dishes on the menu at $16) it is a taste sensation.

Some North Van folk swear by Palkis on 15th, not me, I've tried both and keep coming back to Mumbai Masala.

Alright
This place was alright. It was not as good as the last reviewer makes it out to be. I agree, the food was really nice and tasty but this place was not affordable at all. It is under the 10 dollar or less category as many dishes are under $10. However, when I ordered one of the paneer dishes they had as a main course I was shocked. I was expecting enough for at least one person but it was barely the size of an appetizer at most other indian restaurants. I was greatly disappointed. Once again food, and atmosphere were good but portion size was terrible.
