Falls very short!
I have to say that I was very disappointed in my dining experience last night! It has been about 5 years since I was there last and it was terrible. We walked in and were seated by the window and the ambiance was the same as always, it’s nice it’s French and the food smelt good. We proceeded to look over the menu and see what was new and available, the menu was extensive and did have a lot of variety which we like, the server who had an accent proceeded to tell us the specials, which sounded nice. The server left and we chatted for about 10 min, I eyed the server she came over and I had to ask for some water, no biggie, then I proceeded to order a half liter of wine, in French, as I was obviously there to get the full experience, and I ordered in French and she looked at me and said “WHAT”? I ordered again and she apologized saying she was from the Ukraine and didn’t speak a lick of French – well the night was off to a slow start, I go to a French restaurant with an out of town guest and no one speaks French! So I ordered a half of red and the server said that we HAD to order the only ½ red as she made an excuse about a late delivery or we HAD to order a bottle??? Very odd. So to make a long story short the lobster bisque tasted like they poured a fish extract into a cream base and sprinkled some parsley on it, the French Onion soup was cold and the cheese was not melted, the chicken entrée was dry and tasteless and finally the scallops were not cooked and the cream base sauce was like a can of tomato soup. I am 40 years old and I eat out often, I have not left a tip in my life 3 times, this was one of them – for $135 we received the worst meal in a long time, don’t waste your money or time, yes they have been around since 1977 but it looks like the chef or owner has become complacent or just doesn’t care – too bad, great location nice insides and the wine selection looked pretty decent.

Disappointed in Cafe de Paris
Cafe de Paris was very disappointing. Our group had a reservation for 7:00 p.m., we ordered at 7:30 and were not served until 8:45 p.m. The meals were very expensive and when they arrived were very small in portion size. The vegetables were almost non-existent and looked like they were of the frozen variety. I was told the fish was pan seared but sadly it was soggy, breaded and very small. Other group members who ordered different meals also expressed their disappointment in the quality and ridiculous prices of their meals. Our waiter was extremely slow even though there were only about two other tables in the restaurant. He kept wandering off not returning to the table at times 1/2 hour later. We asked for separate bills only to be told that "they didn't have that type of machine". At the end of the meal we were given a bill on one receipt which resulted in some people paying for appetizers and wine they didn't have. The ambience of this restaurant was nice enough but it could not make up for the poor service, poor food and ridiculously high prices. I would not come back to this restaurant nor would the other group members I was with. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. How they stay in business is beyond comprehension.

back in the game
I have visited this place many times through the years, the second to last time being early last summer......I was not impressed, however, in the meantime they have got a new chef and things are looking up, way up. The food quality was excellent when I visited last night, and the service very professional. I had a seafood terrine that was amazing, wild mushrooms in a cream sauce served in a puff pastry, (heavenly) and halibut with a lobster sauce......perfectly cooked and presented. Time was taken with every vegetable, everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. The room may be a little old fashioned, but I spend a fair amount of time in France, and it's pretty typical. It's not all about spending 5 million on a swanky interior, it's all about FOOD!!!!!!! I will return here very soon, and encourage you to try it too!!!

Service needs help
The service here is I guess, old fashioned because a French man greeted us and sat us down but he didn't greet us again at our table until after 15 minutes only to tell us he would be right with us. I was a little peeved but I tolerated it. He was good at recommending dishes but seemed a little rude, probably because he had other tables to attend to because he was the only server there. The food was decent but I don't think I will go back. It wasn't anything special that would make me go back there. I would much rather go to La Regalade or Chez Michel in West Vancouver.

Can I give a ZERO???
We were in Vancouver for an "eating" weekend and besides hitting Le Crocodile..which was AMAZING.. we went for lunch at Cafe de Paris. This spot was alomost commical. After having seated us, we were told by our waiter, Michel, "Sorry I did not get to you earlier.. we are very busy. There were six tables in the place. We watched mistified, as our waiter, brought the bread late, brought the wine late, did't give us a fork, and argued with his french colleague. When a table left he said good-bye yelling across teh room, "So it was better than last time eh? I told you it would be!" After having not delivered my express my husband told him to leave it off the bill. Michel asked if we spoke French, which we had been doing for the ENTIRE meal.. He explained that "When things are slow, you know, you tend to forget things !!

I SAY..... FORGET CAFE DE PARIS!!!

Past it's Prime - I agree
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. The last time we went was a year ago. The last few times it was not as good as we remembered but we decided to give it one last try as it was always one of of favorites.

Now the prices have really escalated. They've taken a number of our favorites off the menu and what they do offer is mediocre at best. It is just not a pleasant evening. For the money we can do so much better.

It's too bad

Past its Prime
The food was entirely average, the meat chewy, and the only potatoes were French Fries. The server's attitude was perfunctory and we waited 90 minutes for a routine menu item. The ambience consisted of a fifties diner with a few brass plaques in French. The prices were about twice what they were worth. The Cafe de Paris must have had some kind of draw in the past, because it is still riding on that expired reputation. But it won't be long before everyone comes to realize that this place is well past its Best-Before date.

Excellent French Cuisine
New York Steak with French Fries and Veggies was very good as was my wife's Duck.

Thick cut fries that are cooked twice are very good and thoroughly crispy, White Spot could take a lesson and get rid of the soggy fries.

Waiter was attentive and polite. This is a very nice place without being too snobish or formal as some French places can be. The crowd likes to get sloshed and noisey...party on. Good for a special occation...unless you are a millionaire.

What happened!?!?
This place was once great. It is now mediocre at best. I understand the former chef has left and it is obvious....not nearly the ambience it once had and the food is just boring. I won't be returning to what was once my favourite French bistro.

Garcon!?!!!
I went to Cafe de Paris last Christmas for a dinner party. It was great value for the yummy French food they served. It's a very tiny restaurant and is busy most nights. Unfortunately, we were only about 10 minutes late for our reservation and they gave our table away! We ended up having to wait almost an hour for another table. Not cool. Plus we all had big huge presents with us and their corridor at the entrance was so tiny, people kept kicking our gifts as they walked by. We finally got seated at our small table and although our orders were taken and food arrived in timely order, our server rarely came by to check up on us. I do have to say that the food is definately a plus!

Pomme frites done right
This is a casual, well-priced, authentic French restaurant that knows how to do pomme frites! I could devour heaps of them - daily. The ambiance is fine and the service is friendly. This is a great place for a midday lunch. I have never been at dinnertime.

A great evening dining out
We had an exceptional night last night at Cafe de Paris. Having just returned from Montreal and experiencing numerous first class bistro's, I read the reviews and was concerned about the one that rated it low. Nonetheless, we went with another couple and had an exceptional evening. We were seated promptly and waited on by a professional waiter - a gentleman in his 50's originally from Tangiers who has served in fine rooms around the world. My appetizer, a artistically presented plate of gravlox and tuna was spectacular and very reasonably priced. My wife had a salad with fig and chevre - good enough to pass for a dinner. I had rabbit leg with stuffed pork loin on the side - the very best lapin I have eaten. My wife had duck breast with red cabbage and lentils. Can't wait to have it again. Our other dining guests had perfectly cooked bistro steaks with frites - I tasted the frites...they were the best. Fresh sorbets for dessert topped of a wonderful night. Bottom line - would I go back again....in a heart beat - you bet !

Perfect Dessert!
My girlfriend and I were looking for a good place to have dessert in a Friday night and we found this place. When we stepped in it was 10:05pm and they close at 10pm, but the owner (I guess) kindly let us in. He was polite and classy. We had 'warm apple tart' and 'banana bread' and they were both very good and unique. The service was good, too. We also like the environment.

Coldest Service this side of Coal Harbor; as cold as their House Pate
Was here for dinner with a party of 7. Things didn't start off right on the get go. Our server was cold as their coldest appetizer. He must be well into his fourties if not early fifties...glasses, greyed hair - not exactly a young and rambunctious "garcon". However, that isn't even the problem. He did not manage to crack a smile (until he handed the check to us at the end of the meal), shockingly demonstrated subdued impatience during ordering, and gave minimum effort to make our dining experience pleasurable. Talk about BAD VIBES. Nonetheless, the food was okay...portions weren't spectacular. I had a Roasted Breast of Chicken with peppercorn sauce....and it came with frites (thank goodness for that). It was a nice cut of chicken and had plenty of meat. Otherwise, wish we had a different server - would have made the dining experience hella much better. I wouldn't come back. There are other places in town that serve similar fare with added warmth and graciousness that this joint lacks in the most severe way.

Just Excellent
This is not where you go when you want a cheap dinner. However, it is the place to go when you want a treat: everything done right, and excellent, excellent food. I love this place.
