Nice place in Kits
I went here with some friends at around 9pm for a 'quick dinner.' The restaurant interior was rather nice, music could be a little loud but the service was nice enough. I ordered some kind of a summer salad with blueberries and goat cheese, which came with plentiful portions and tasted pretty good, although it did have a slightly strange undertone to it. All around, a pretty nice place; I would totally go there again.

Outstanding for cocktails!
I haven't eaten here that many times, but from my experience the food has been fine. Not amazing, but of better quality than the numerous bars around the area. It certainly surpasses food at Gargoyles, the Shack, Elwoods, etc. However, the New Bohemian should have better food than these places, as it charges higher prices and seems to want to cater to a different clientele (i.e. lounge not bar). So basically, the food is good and fair value for what you pay but it is not the best thing about the Bohemian. You won't be disappointed, but you're probably better off going for late night cocktails and a snack rather than dinner.

There is, however, one exception to this. The mussels and yam fries combo. It's available on either Tuesday or Wednesday night (I don't remember which), and serve up a 1/2 lb of yam fries (better than the average) and a 1/2 lb of mussels. I would advise the coconut curry mussels which are absolutely delicious. I drank up all the broth at the end because they were so good. And the best part is - the combo is only $7! That to me is a very good price for what you get.

The ambiance is fantastic, it's a beautiful space. The patio outside is lovely, and was my choice during my summer when I was there with just one or two friends. With a bigger group (or, you know, in the winter), grab their comfy leather sofas inside and post up for a fun night. The movie screens are really cool; overall, a feast for the eyes.

The drinks are well the Bohemian really shines. Yes, some of them cost more than your average Broadway street pint/cocktail. Their beer selection is unparalleled in the area and their cocktails, well, can only be described as exceptional. Try the champagne cocktails - so good! Word of warning - they get quite a bit of alcohol into deceptively tasty cocktails. If you are there at 1:30am, and can no longer taste the bourbon in your lemonade... well, maybe that's just me.

As a restaurant, I give this place 3/5.
As a bar/lounge, I give this place 5/5.

Wouldn't go back
Four of us went for a girls night out here one Friday night and we all agreed the place was pretentious and over priced. We walked in around 7 and the place was 3/4 empty and we were told there was no room for us so we'd have to sit at the bar. This was fine as one of our friends hadn't arrived yet, so we grabbed a cocktail and waited it out. A half hour later the hostess told us we could sit on their patio, so we picked up our drinks and we're crammed into a tiny table that barley fit two. We then had to move again inside to a real table this time, where our server was great until we asked for the bill. She put all of us on the same bill which was fine until I asked her if she could split it as we were all paying separate and different ways. I waited for about 10 minutes by the debit machine.... again fine as it was now busy, however when I asked her about dividing up the bill she told me to add it up myself and she was to busy to do it. She followed it up with " I'm sorry if that sounded bitchy. I'm just really busy."
I understand if a server is busy, just be polite about it.
Due to that and the overpriced bland and small portions of food, not to mention the worst cheese plate ever, I won't be going back.

average food, average place.
theres lots of competition out there with lounges so these places really need to stand out and do something to draw customers on a consistent basis. i would say that the new bohemian falls in the middle and just met my expectations in terms of an average dining experience.
i was not pleased with the food. my apricot glazed salmon tasted mediocre at best along with everything else that came with it. the taste was just bland in nature and i felt the food was cooked in a hurry. my gfs beef tortellini was too salty, the chefs must have doubled the sodium content because i have never tasted pasta like that before.
our waitress was friendly and helpful when it came to ordering our dishes. however, she wasnt on top of things and didnt come around to see if we wanted another round of drinks until we pointed it out to her nor did she refill our glasses of water more than once. not a huge issue but it still came to my attention.
prices here are fair. i do not recall anything on the menu being more than $30 (but i could be wrong) however the trade off is sub-par tasting food which is not something i am willing to take.
i love the ambiance in this place. dimly lit, attractive bar appearance and a spacious dining area along with a casual atmosphere. i could see how this place would be great to go to after dinner to drink and relax with friends.
overall, i cant say anything more about this place. i would return if i was in the area for drinks but if i was hungry, i wouldnt come here because the variety and selection of restaurants in this area is enormous. with that being said, its hard to overlook the poor food quality here when theres potentially something much better "next door".

Good Ambience, good service
This restaurant has great ambience and friendly servers. The food is adequate, but it didn't wow me. I had the risotto, which was full of flavour, but the rice was way too hard. My bf had the burger and the beef tasted very fresh. Yam fries were good, but the ones at the bottom of the bowl got kind of soggy. My server was very friendly, and made a delicious fruit punch for me out of white grape juice, cranberry juice, orange juice, and 7.

For the price, I think I could get better tasting food elsewhere. I might drop by again for some yam fries and drinks.

New Hot Spot!
I had dinner here with the girls and took advantage of their DOV menu for only $28 (4 courses). It really was a good menu, especially for the amount of food you get.
For the 2 starters, I had the split pea soup and the bacon wrapped scallops. Both fantastic. My main was the organic pork chop which was also really good. But the most excellent part of dinner was the strawberry napoleon for dessert - I could have easily enjoyed that for all 4 courses and be happy!

The service was good - they weren't pushy in terms of trying to push alcohol sales or trying to rush your meal to turn tables faster. The ambiance was hip and cool. Unfortunate for us, the DJ was setting up just as we were finishing up.
Warning, if you're looking for a quiet date place, this is not so suitable. It's great for a night out with a loud crowd.

Hopefully, they will return for next year's DOV. If they do, I will definitely be back, if not before which is very likely!

our new favorite!
The server was very personable and had a genuinely friendly demeanor.
The food was served with lightening speed and if we had a finished plate and our server was occupied, the other server would grab it,It almost felt like encroachment on our servers territory as he would appear within seconds with an almost hurt look that he hadn't grabbed the plate first.
We had the tomato salad and pea soup--the roemary bread was so good I asked the server to ask the chef which bakery he used and I was stunned to find out that the chef had made it that morning--it was seriously superb.
We then had a prawn and scallop appy both good followed by their risotto with plump scallops and prawns. The risotto was a little el dente for my taste but we were the first sitting. The dessert was delicious,We both left raving about the food, decor and service and have found our favorite restaurant,We liked it so much we bought a gift cert, for a friend.

Horrible Experience
What can I say? A disaster, I am shocked it has received even moderate reviews. The pizzas were a soggy mess. Heart of palm bland and mushy. The veggies were turning. Lamb shank tough and over salted. The chop salad was decent but would I return for just that not likely. They were out of three bottles I ordered from the winelist. I ordered, the waitress leaves, returns minutes later to tell me the bottle was sold. Three times through this same excruiting process. So my only choices left were a 30.00 bottle or 80.00 bottle? 20 minutes later we decided to stick with water, we wanted to move on as quickly as possible to Pear Restaurant. This is not the place for dinner, I am hesitant to even recommend it for a cocktail.

Late night fare
Open late, so it's hard to phase at that hour.
Good cheese plate. Good Mussels.
Great service, everyone has got personality there.
Fair pricing for standard fare.
Black & White Charlie Brown's Christmas on the big screen? EXTRA ambiance points! tho i couldn't keep my eyes off.

Basically like local independant cactus club.

Solid room great vibe
I came here after school last week and was impressed.
I think the room is gorgeous. I am from Montreal and even there this would be one of the nicest rooms in the city.
I was tired and not all that hungry so I had a quick beer and the Walnut Goats cheese to start. My server was very friendly ( great smile ) and both food and drink arrived surprisingly quick for a busy room.
Loved the Cheese and followed it with the Steak Tacos. I've never tried tacos before so I'm not sure if all tacos are like this..but I loved them.
Loved the lighting and the projector playing black and white movies.
I want to come back for a full blown dinner experience.

Love this place!
I tend to go on week nights, and have always found the food, service ,and ambiance to be great.
My friends find this a relaxing place to socialize, and we go often.
The food is original , always delicious, and reasonably priced.
A nice neighbourhood find!
Much classier than all the sports bars on Broadway!

Loved it...
I had heard great things from friends who had been to the New Bohemian, so I tried it out last week.

Service was really friendly and fun, with a great casual edge.

Everyone at the table loved their meals - we had a couple of dishes of mussels to start, as well as the heart of palm salad, and then had the lamb, stuffed chicken, curry bowl and rigatoni with some of the tastiest bolognaise sauce I have ever had!!

Had a blast -- good food and a very appealing and inviting atmosphere. Will be back soon for sure!

Original rooms DO still exist!
I was down with my friends this weekend and was really happy to find that there still are original and independant restaurants being opened in this city! Great looking room with a cool loungy atmosphere and live music on the weekends was exactly what we have been looking for in kits! We're mostly in our 30's and are tired of the same old chains. Dinner was really good, we were actually totally impressed with the organic meats direction on the menu - I can always taste the difference of organic and would go back for that reason alone!

Oceanwise? I don't think so.. Smells fishy
Should have known by how empty it was.
Service was ok, the poor server told us she gives away free drinks all the time to make up for getting hassled about the food. I just don't get it, if the food is 'clean, organic' 'oceanwise' how could it taste so bad. You could have great food raw and it will still be great. I think there might not be truth to the claims of food sources.Decor is like walking into a cheaply designed version of cactus club

service?
Hi, i went into the New Bohemian restaurant two days ago and was looking forward to drinks with a friend. Well, i was pretty disappointed with the service or lack there of. We must have sat at the bar for a good 10 minutes before anyone said anything to us. I looked at the guy next to me and he seemed as down as we were. All i'm saying is that if you a large bar set up, have someone tend it. And second, set up a rapport with your customers. My recommendation is go somewhere where you're welcome.

Great new kits spot
Went to the New Bohemian last weekend for dinner with 5 friends and ended up staying all night! The music was great and it was packed so it saved us heading downtown.

The heart of palm salad is a must have, and from what I heard from the others at the table the stuffed chicken and mussels were fantastic as well.

The lighting is great, and the decor is really stylish, without making you feel like you are in a pretentious place.

Service was amazingly friendly and personable. We all agreed that we would be back soon!

Wish I knew.
The food was horrible and after doing an online search I found some awful reviews by food reviewers. I wish I would have seen them before coming here. The waitress forgot to add my order to my groups so they recieved their food while I sat and watched. She blamed it on the kitchen and said it was their fault. Who cares give me my food. My food arrives, overcooked and burnt like they rushed to get it out and burnt it. Please take your time and make it right, I am already sitting here hungry. Nothing was offered to me while I was waiting by the way. I was offered dessert on the house after dinner oh how kind, no thank you. Martinis are okay, the atmosphere was too much like a bar.

Good casual dinner
I went with a girlfriend on a Thurs night, sat at the bar comfortably on high backed chairs. The cocktail list is excellent and we chose a couple of interesting cocktails -- outstanding! We each had a meat entre, and while my friend's was stone cold, mine was only "good" not great. But, the great bartender had my friend's dinner heated up right away and then bought us a dessert -- and although one dessert was all we could conceive of trying after a satisfying dinner, I'm sure if we had both ordered a dessert, he would have promo'd both without blinking. To summarize, food pretty good, cocktails excellent, service -- excellent.

New and improved place, same (not so) great char flavor
We had eaten at fiction, the restaurant that used to be in this spot, once and had a bad time because everything had a burn-char taste and the pizza was terrible. Well, we decided to try out this place, and I am sad to report that although the service is better, the food still has a strong char flavor (except, strangely, the flaming cheese, which was good) and the pizza is still pretty bad to downright terrible, served on a cracker - like crust. Oh well.

good all around
I went here for Dinner about a month ago for Dinner with my boyfriend and for us, it was awesome. We shared a few dishes and they were all good. After we were done eating, we sat in front of the fire place and drank more wine; I had a really good night there. Our server sat with us for a bit, she was super nice. The service was excellent, the ambiance very relaxed, and the food really good. Will definitely go back. The only thing negative are the prices, but every now and then, why not?!

Breath of fresh air for Kits!
Went down last with a group of 4 friends and had a fantastic time! We all live in Kits and have been waiting for the renovation to finish to see what's changed. The room was completely renovated from the older look of Fiction and the new style was something I haven't seen in Kits before - like something between George and Glowbal but without the attitude.

The food was excellent, we all shared a bit of everything - the heart of Palm salad was really fresh, the Ahi Tuna entree with miso ginger sauce and the banana bread with vanilla ice cream and brulleed bananas on top were the standouts. Service was very attentive as well, I think they're a bit understaffed though as the servers seem to have large sections.

All in all, I thought the overall package was a really nice change from standard Kitsilano fare.

**Note: we were down last tuesday and they have a weekly promotion where bottles of wine are 25% off on mon and tuesdays! Will definitely be back for that again this week!

Service and Food poor....
I went to this restaurant on Saturday night. Made reservations for 6 people. We were put a table that seats 4 comfortably....need not say more about the comfort. The lighting was so dim that we could hardly read the menu! We had to use the candles at the table. We sat at our table for over 10 mins before the waitress came by to take our drink order...and that's only because I told her we wanted drinks!!!! Terrible service. The food was ok. The stuffed bread was more like pie pastry. Definitely lacked flavour. The seafood risotto was good. The pizza was HORRIBLE! had no flavour at all. I complained to waitress and she offered the fondue dessert on the house. That was the best dish on the menu. The bar area filled up as the night progressed and seemed to be more of a lounge/bar than restaurant which was good for the 30 - 40 something crowd. People were having a good time but I think it was due to the dj and the drinks.... Recommend this place for drinks and atmosphere...skip the dinner.
