No Air Conditioning on the Vancouver's hotest day
Very disappointed that their air conditioner was not working very well on July 30 which was one of those hot days. Poor waiter and waitress were so sweaty, and we (customers) felt like to be cheated. I wished they would put a sign for telling people about their air conditioner's trouble at door.
When we were leaving, we saw one technician guy arrived to look at the problem. Too late!!

Decent price for lunch
Went here for lunch and had a mini set meal. Came to about $7 after tax and comes with cold drink. I ordered the baked porkchop on rice with a cold lemon tea. This is one of the usual dishes i order when i go to a hk style cafe but i found the tomato sauce to be a little on the sour side. I also found the pork chop itself to be a bit more fatty than i liked it to be. Overall it was edible but wasn't great. LOL. Also, I thought the lemon tea was way too sweet so next time i happen to come here i'll ask for the sugar on the side. The ambience however is just OK. Didn't really like it b/c it was very dark due to the black walls, seats, and tables i think. i suppose they wanted a more hip feel but it just doesnt work for me.

Disappointing hainanese chicken
This is not my first time here.
I've been here before and felt that their set meals were solid and I didn't mind the self pick 3 items menu.
However, yesterday I wasn't very hungry so I decided to go for a hainanese chicken. They had several choices and I picked the smallest one which was already $10, and I was already second guessing myself. When the chicken came, it tasted just like regular free range chicken from any other chinese restaurant, and the rice was regular plain white rice. Vegetables that came with the dish were very crunchy. and the borscht soup was what you'd expect.

I knew that this place wasn't the best or something, but thought i'd take a risk. Hugely disappointed.

Good all around
First of all, came by on a Sunday night at like around 8 pm, so we ordered from the regular menu. We ordered Malaysian rice noodle and Black pepper spaghetti, which came w/ 2 soups and 2 drinks. It was really good value, b/c the portions were huge and delicious.

The service was pretty good as well. The waitresses were fast and efficient.. and they know what you want even though you don't ask them, such as giving us a take-out box for the left-overs and the bill.

I really like the ambiance of this place b/c the booths are very roomy and cozy. Also, the booths are all black, and dark, and has a really nice chic appeal...its probably the only HK cafe that has a nice ambiance.

late night eats!
I visit silver tower more frequently that I would like. It was one of the few places that are still open in the later hours.

The value is excellent, you get a good portion of food for what you pay. Usually the meals include soup and a drink. The food tastes fine, nothing special. Run of the mill HK style cafe food. They don't charge extra for cold drinks which is nice. Seating is good, there are many booths.

Servers and waitress are some times difficult to get a hold of and when you do get a hold of one, they seem like they would rather be somewhere else or in a rush to do something instead of serve you. If you visit this restaurant during the peak hours, you will see what I mean. Signal your hand, they come by and ask you what you want while still moving, sometimes they'll be so far away you have to stick your head out to finish your sentence because they're already 2 tables down.

Chinese comfort, for the stomach and wallet
Dropped by on Saturday night for a late dinner. We were seated quickly once we entered. Fairly similar layout as the previous restaurant (Golden Award) which existed here, with all new decor, in a sleek, trendy ebony colour theme.

Extensive menu choices, as one would find at any typical HK cafe. My friend went with the 2 choice combo, a fish filet and pork chop while my girlfriend and I shared the 3 choice combo: breaded pork chop, grilled chicken chop and minute steak. The standard soup (your choice of tomato or cream), rice, sauce and drink to accompany. The 3 of us also decided to share a plate of Mushroom and Chicken Yee Mein. The combos were a tasty surprise and decidely better than typical. The pork chop was panko breaded and fairly juicy while the grilled chicken chop (misnomer since it looked and tasted pan fried) had a nice amount of flavour and tenderness. I liked that they were easy on the corn starch and tenderizer on the minute steak and wasn't particularly gummy tasting at all. The cream soup was actually decent. Normally a watery, flavourless rue it had bits of vegetables and shreadded chicken mixed in. Portions were gracious, even the bowl of rice included was packed down into a larger than usual bowl. Only unusual thing was that they didn't include a small side of steamed vegetables, be they 2-3 pieces usually. That's ok. The yee mein needed more seasoning, a touch bland but could easily be corrected by throwing some soy sauce on it. The obligatory iced lemon tea was a must and went down great with the meal.

Prices were thrifty. The 3 choice combo coming in at a touch over $9, it's great value, considering the $1 difference between an extra piece of meat, go for the 3 and share.

Service was quick as was kitchen speed. Waitresses are polite, top up your tea and handle english well. We sat there for at least another hour after they cleared our plates and didn't rush us at all, even continued to come over to top up our tea.

This was the old location of Golden Award so diehard followers would've been a great market to pick up after, and I'm sure many agree this new restaurant is definitely a winner.

Open until 3am 7 days a week, it's marking itself apart among many similar eateries within that area. Recommended.

A pleasant surprise
We ended up at this place after not being able to find parking at Alleluia cafe. The restaurant looks small from the outside, but we were surprised to find it quite spacious inside. The decor was different, lots of black, but I liked that the booths offered privacy, not like some HK cafes where you're practically sitting in the lap of the person at the next table. Service was prompt, we were seated and brought tea and menus almost immediately. We ordered young chow fried rice and laksa, and both dishes arrived quickly. The fried rice was good, although a bit too salty, and the laksa was not the best but definitely not the worst. We noticed the dishes another table ordered, singapore fried noodle and beef brisket on rice, and both were large and looked appetizing. We had iced lemon tea, and found it surprisingly good. Definitely will return, good value, efficient (but not friendly) service, but that's to be expected at a restaurant like this. The only draw back is the small parking lot with small spaces.

Great Value
Went here for dinner and was surprised by the value for what you pay. The portions are very generous and tasty. They serve both Chinese dishes like noodles and also offer English influenced dishes like pastas and steaks with an Asian twist. Most food comes in a combo where for under $10 you can get a sizable plate of food and a drink. For $7.95 you can choose 2 items meat or fish and have it on a plate of rich or spaghetti with vegetables. Great Value.
