Kind of hidden and in a funny location... this place delivers!!! 6.95 for there "18 piece sushi special". Now unlike most places they give you a list of around 15 different rolls to choose from, and will even let you create your own, for example I requested a salmon avocado roll which they made no extra charge. Other favorites from this list are the tuna tempura and salmon tempura rolls which are huge and tasty. Service is great, prices are cheap, food is very good. Its my go to cheap sushi place on the north shore. It is MUCH BETTER than yuko maki. Defiantly worth a visit. |

The thing was they were the exact same as the ones at Yuko Maki right down the road on pemberton, like exactly same menu. They are missing some of the great combs from before and the prices are higher. It is exactly the same as yuko maki now so no point going to it since its harder to park. |

The fish is INCREDIBLY FRESH. The portions are generous and the prices are very low....18 pieces plus soup for about $6. The "flower roll" was awesome. There is free parking in the back. This is a gem in North Van. Friendly owner/operator and staff. |

They have a choice of about 20 rolls to choose from. When I got the rolls they were great, full sized and tasty, they don't cheap out on the combos like other places to. I also had some bbq eel which was great as well. This place should be charging more, it is way better than most cheap sushi places. Highly recommended Note: The reviewer has submitted a more recent review for this restaurant. This review does not affect the overall rating and is displayed for information purposes only. |

I found it wasn't too busy after 1pm, service was friendly and warm. I was given a menu and sat next to the window. I decided to go off on the beaten path, order chicken teriyaki, salmon, tuna nigiri and california roll. My tuna & salmon was great & full of flavour and definately like the california roll. All this was served to me before my very hot chicken teriyaki on a skillet, giving it time to cool, before my first bite. I loved the chicken teriyaki, lots of flavour, fresh with rice and veggies and hot in each bite. I could have done it cheaper by ordering the specials, but I wanted to experiment on the menu, and it didn't disappoint. Thanks to the regulars review, this place was worth stopping and trying it out. |

| Added Jan 11, 2009 by Kujibo of West Vancouver (134 Reviews) Great value for good sushi I pretty much echo the review directly below. For lunch for two we had two 5.95 3 roll and miso specials, an order of tuna sashimi, and a pop, for 20.44.
Miso soup was average. Tuna sashimi was a bit too chilled for my liking, but not bad. The sushi I had was excellent. They have a fairly big selection of rolls for the 5.95 deal. I had a california, dynamite, and a tuna tempura roll, which is something I've never seen, and was quite tasty. All the tempura in the rolls was fresh, not the typical stale been prepared long ahead of time you get at budget places. My rolls were quite tasty. My wife ordered some other stuff and she wasn't as impressed with hers, but it was still not bad at all. My 4 for the food may be a bit high given some of the stuff was average, but I really liked my own meal and will give them the benefit of the doubt given the prices.
Service was good for these prices.
So the main thing about this place is the value. They had a bunch of lunch boxes from $6 and up too. This place is similar to other places in the area like yuko maki, but the food quality here is WAY better for what is about the same price. You are getting a pretty darn good lunch for cheaper than your typical mcdonalds combo.

| Added Dec 20, 2008 by revscapegoat of north vancouver (4 Reviews) Big and cheap and tasty! Lunch for two (and we were stuffed!) came to $20.11
Yes, you read that right, twenty dollars and eleven cents.
We each a had a lunch special - three sushi rolls on the set menu (great selection) and a miso soup for $5.75. As well as one of the 'special' sushi rolls (none of which is more than $7.25). And lemme tell ya, them sushi rolls are mighty big. We went in on empty stomachs and left stuffed.
The waitress was friendly and refilled our tea and water several times without being asked. Food was prompt, delicious, and plentiful.
It's a tough location to do business in - not IN Capilano Mall, but right beside it, sort of awkwardly. Not much for ambience, but it's a fast café-style sushi restaurant - so what do you want? Lots of options on the menu too.
We had had tried the previous Chinese restaurant in this location once, but it was awful, so were pleased to find out something new had moved in, and we'll definitely be back again. |

| Added Dec 5, 2008 by chasiubow of North Van (673 Reviews) good cheap sushi Mrs. C and I were driving along Marine Drive when we noticed a new contender in the NV sushi wars. This location was a porn shop for many years, and most recently was home to a Taiwanese-style cafe. So it is fair to say there is a long tradition of serving the various needs of North Shore residents ;)
The restaurant had a few parking stalls out front, but access from the busy roadway can be a challenge. The place was nice and new-looking inside if a bit spartan. It was very clean, including the w/c. We looked at the menu, and it is mostly sushi with some tempura, soba and donburi in the mix. They had an opening special of 10% off all orders.
We settled on a couple of combos with various roll sushi and miso soup, and we supplemented our order with some tuna nigiri and a teriyaki beef roll. Service was excellent, and the sushi was very well prepared. I found the fish to be fresh and there was a high fish/rice ratio. The sushi chef (and all the other staff) is Chinese, if that is important to you. Still it was better sushi than I have had at most 'authentic' Japanese places.
Overall a very good sushi meal and well under 20 dollars. What more could you want?
Recommended. |
