Apparently they are under new management. 4 of us went on a Friday night and they were kinda busy. Food was better than before but I can't say the same for their service though. We had the all you can eat deluxe. Honestly I thought it was a little pricey for the kind of food they were serving us. Wouldn't be going back any time soon. |

But, the standards have been going down. Before, you could get a plate of ginger for free. Now, they charge 75 cents for it? We pay to eat all you can eat.. but we can't get ginger. Also, if you order food, for example 5 miso soups, they only give you 3. They also don't always serve you the amount of food you order. Overall, it was very disappointing. |

I found cheaper priced menu to be quite bare compared to other all you can eat places. The expensive menu had a lot more stuff, but was also quite expensive in all you can eat standards. I of course, ordered all the expensive items I could, geoduck, stuff like that. The food was so so, I think I could've eaten at a regular japanese restaurant for maybe not so expensive stuff, but the overall food quality would've been better. |

This was one. I was surprised to find hamachi and geoduck on the menu so already this place gets one plus from me. They have recently added aburi which is a nice touch. Problems? Well I have seen a cockroach there but that's probably the same for all restaurants. Cooked food.. Well some people complain about how long it takes for cooked food to arrive (Ninkazu for example), well there is a reason.. Here it takes a minute or two. It's usually lukewarm and soggy. I wish they would at least re-fry some foods but they don't. Seems like they microwave it or have it sitting under a heat lamp. When I went to another AYCE I partially burnt myself thinking it was going to be Richmond sushi-ish temperature. Anyhow, they took some fried things off their menu and when we inquired about it, they told me it was because it doesn't keep for more than 5 minutes in good quality. I wanted to tell them " then don't cook it so long ahead." but I didn't. I've also seen them (when I sat at the bar) keep their rolled sushi on the counter top (on huge trays) for almost 2 hours with refrigerating. Mass producing for AYCE is normal and I understand it but they should be a bit more careful when it comes to things like that. Go for their premium items but don't expect much from the other stuff. |

| Added Mar 19, 2009 by EatFood of Burnaby (11 Reviews) Decent AYCE I went there with three other people for lunch on a Saturday after they reopened for renovations...it was hard to notice any changes at all. It was quite busy so we had to wait for about 15 minutes before we got a seat.
I've been there in the past and not much has changed quality wise. The menu items are different from what I remember (ex. no chicken knees!!). It's all you can eat so you can't expect the greatest food. Comparing it with other AYCE places, it's about average. I'm guessing some stuff is cooked before hand as some things we ordered were lukewarm.
Service wasn't too bad considering how busy they where. Overall I'd go back but there are plenty of other AYCE places around that one doesn't have to go out of their way just to eat sushi here |

| Added Mar 10, 2009 by lush0000 of Vancouver (19 Reviews) Good Food, Decent Decor but TERRIBLE service I've been here about 5 times, usually with a bigger group, and I've tried the Lunch AYCE, the Dinner AYCE and the latenight AYCE as well.....so I think I've gotten a good measure of the restuarant on many different occasions.
Food: the food is pretty fresh and well-made for a AYCE restaurant, no complaints here. Except the seafood/oyster motoyaki is mostly cream/cheese, not seafood. The sashimi is cut a little thin, but the chicken wings, beef ribs and spicy scallop rolls are great.
Service: this is where my biggest complaint lies. I understand this is a busy asian restaurant, and that many servers may not be able to fluently speak English, but the food comes so slow! Also, beware, it doesn't matter how many orders you specify, you get what they WANT to give you... we placed 10 orders for nigiri THREE times since it never came, and we received 2 by the end of the night, despite the fact we asked our waitress FOUR times. I noticed they always give you less of the sashimi/nigiri/meat and more of the noodles or miso soup (I guess to fill you up with cheaper starch and get you to leave?)
The wait staff is quick but can often be extremely rude and cuts people off mid-sentence, or just walks away if they don't feel like listening to you. Furthermore, either they or the kitchen is slow in producing the food (if they make some of your orders at all), as well as reluctant to give you more of those paper slips for the order (I guess hoping that you will give up and leave?)
Also, I've had waitstaff DEMAND a tip from us (we were trying to figure out how much to give)... that made us so angry that we didn't want to leave any, but to be honest the woman looked like she was going to hit us with the teapot if we dared to leave so we put some down....
Value: it's good value if you only count the money and food. You might almost have a heart attack from anger at the service, though.
Ambiance: surprisingly clean and bright for a AYCE restaurant. Most corners seem clean and the utensils dont look too old.
Overall: It's an alright place to go with friends if you want some cheap food, but be prepared to be VERY PATIENT. |

| Added Feb 17, 2009 by adidaf of Richmond (64 Reviews) solid AYCE Food: was there for Sat lunch AYCE, food came out fast. The only big disappointments were the lemon chicken which had neither lemon or chicken (deep fried chicken had very thick batter coating and almost no chicken and was coated with some sort of yellowy syrup/sauce) and agedashi tofu (soggy). Short ribs were good but way to fatty. Actually, all items tend to be on the greasy side. Also, think they use a lot of MSG as we had MSG-overload symptoms afterwards.
Service: ok for AYCE, server came by periodically to ask if we wanted to order more.
Value: even though it's a little bit more expensive than some AYCE around Richmond, they have more choices, so it evens out.
Ambiance: spacious, probably not as clean as it can be.

and again - like "fried chicken" is best enjoyed in moderation. good to go with guys with large appetites and small tastebuds
best sushi is prepared by Japanese sushi chefs and not made "ice-cube" style but hey it's AYCE |

Aside from the usual sashimi and sushi they have the greatest BBQ short ribs. We drive for half an hour to get to them but it is worth the ride. The staff is also very friendly and the private booths make you feel very intimate and relaxed. It's a great eating experience and we recommend it to all our friends. |

It was cold and greasy and even though I ordered ala carte, I got really low quality food reminiscent of bad all you can eat. The staff are really pushy about ordering all you can eat too. I had to ask them three times for an ala carte menu, as if such a thing didn't even exist. |

This is the best place for the price you can find in Richmond, and probably in whole Metro Vancouver. Our suggestion is to go for a lunch all you can eat menu option. We always go for a lot of salmon sushi since this is the best place to get it. And of course shrimp shumai and Oyster Motoyaki are "the must try". The staff are very friendly and the service is very fast.

For people who complain about warm sushi, have you ever made it before? Sometimes there isn't time to wait for the rice to cool down. And it sucks that some of you have had some bad food, but it happens.
I think people should try it because I've been there so many times and have yet to had bad food or service. |

Order any sushi and you can see that each piece of sushi is a different color...and usually luke warm. Dishes and the surroundings are 'acceptable' but not too clean. The servers I've gotten here are not bad though...quick and to the point. A good point for here is they never seem to forget orders.
Value is ok...its cheap, but its also not very good...so to each its own I guess. |

| Added Nov 26, 2008 by Bonka of Vancouver (290 Reviews) AYCE rollercoaster I've heard comments both ways regarding this AYCE before and after I've come here and they still continue. Consistency is a major problem I've found - one which they still contend to deal with however my dining experiences here have borderline run-of-the-mill.
The food is OK; having afterthoughts of how long some dishes that come out have sat for under the hot kitchen lights. I've had frozen sashimi come out, the sauce on the Chicken Teriyaki congeal, either the oysters or the mayo on the Motoyakis go south, among other unsavoury examples. Welcome to Japanese fast food, without the reliable quality control. Other times it's pretty good, so that is beyond my wonder.
The service is pretty atrocious, even for all-you-can-eat. Staff is usually running back and forth and they constantly need to be reminded regarding orders, requests for refills and even the bill. With all that stress on the floor, not mentioning the sometimes rowdy customers they have to deal with they can be pretty sour.
Many times I've come there have been some instances of rowdiness, either with obnoxiously loud patrons, drunks literally passed out on the tabletops or floors or people getting way too happy with the booze and end up in the washrooms making a mess.
I personally won't be coming back here. |

The restaurant itself was huge - even though we arrived right when late night started and there was a lot of parties ahead of us, we were seated within 10 minutes.
The service was - shocking for an AYCE place - friendly and attentive! We ended up dealing with two waitresses and one waiter, and they all seemed genuinely happy to be there. Tea was refilled, glasses of water came to the table with a smile, and the food came out quickly and accurately. The food itself was solid - not amazing, but certainly not bad, and more than acceptable for late night all you can eat.
We'll definitely be back - the service alone made it worth the drive to Richmond. |

The food is always good. Pretty standard AYCE sushi fare. Nothing special to rave about and nothing offensive. They have a wider selection of food than a lot of AYCE sushi restaurants (especially their deluxe menu). I'm very partial to the lamb chops. The late night AYCE is good value, but it does not start until 9:30 and the menu selection is limited. My carb-loving friend is a big fan of their corn croquettes.
The service is okay. Food gets onto your table as soon as you order. Some people complain that it's all pre-made, but which AYCE sushi restaurant has food that isn't? Given the choice I'd probably prefer Fish On Rice or Top Gun a bit more, but when in Richmond and craving late night sushi, you probably can't go wrong with this place. |

This place is always good and i've never been disappointed. At lot of other all you can eat restaurants aren't even half as good as Richmond Sushi and they charge the same.

The service is terrible, it seems as though that they only care about is the seat turnover rate.
The food is not too apetitizing, all the items are pre-made ahead of time in large quantities. (therefore, just sits there until someone decides to order the item)
I don't understand why there is always a long line up to get into this restaurant. There is nothing good to look forward to.

Richmond Sushi used to be Richmonds finest all you can eat Japanese Restaurant. My God how times change. The food no longer can cut it and price has gone to a major inflation. Quality goes down while the price goes up. The service is decent at most. Food comes out quick as they slam out dishes onto the table and leave. Waitresses and managers just don't care. I will make the appearance back but I won't come as much as I used to. |
| Added May 23, 2008 by Johnson of Richmond (6 Reviews) Not what they used to be!!
I used to be a regular for all you can eat sushi at Richmond sushi. There used to be long lineups and loads of people waiting just to get in to have all you can eat sushi. The food since has gotten worse. The bbq items are dry and overcooked. The sushi rolls fall apart and the service nowadays are terrible. No smiles from the staff and a very long wait for the drinks. Richmond Sushi better get the act together as competition in Richmond for all you can eat sushi has risen. I don't really come here anymore unless I have to and I wouldn't recommend it. There are other all you can eat Japanese restaurants in town. |

I would never go to Richmond Sushi for a regular meal. The food is absolute crap. Given all the other choices in Richmond for Japanese, there are wayyyy better restaurants at around the same prices. I've also found that it's not always very clean either. |
| Added May 7, 2008 by bling of Vancouver (8 Reviews) It is OKAY for all you can eat! Food: The food is decent and good for all you can eat. The chicken teriyaki always has too much fat though.
Service: The owner knows me and my cousins and friends so when he is working, he makes our dining experience better. The servers are quick and efficient at busing and taking our orders.
Ambiance: Big, open spaced restaurant, but in my opinion, it needs a makeover!
*** This is the one restaurant that makes me feel sick and just "ugh" after eating all you can eat, even if I don't eat that much. There are definitely better Japanese restaurants for all you can eat sushi in the lower mainland. |
| Added May 6, 2008 by sushicritic of Burnaby (7 Reviews) Expensive Menus
This is one of Richmond's old and traditional All you can eat Japanese restaurants. Seems like this place has been around forever.
The place here is actually pretty decent. It has a weird host which makes funny greeting sounds but seems nice. I used to come here as a youngster and this place has changed.
The restaurant is spacious but nowadays has a highly inflated menu while the food quality remains the same. Prices can be as high as $30 per person for dinner all you can eat and lunch prices is like $12. Its simply no longer worth the value.
Service has always been mediocre and sometimes better while the food though consistant in quality not very good presentation wise. Would recommend but try other all you can restaurants around the area. I am sure you can find better quality and better prices. |
| Added May 2, 2008 by CK_Japan of Richmond (2 Reviews) Decently good! Richmond Sushi is definitely a decent all you can eat restaurant. Food is what you expect for 13.95, and service is decent too. Some of the manager's are amazingly friendly! Service was decent as well. You just have to make sure you flag the servers down to order more, as they can get pretty busy with the amount of customers. If you're looking for a cheap AYCE sushi restaurant, definitely check out Richmond Sushi. |
| Added Apr 24, 2008 by reuben of richmond, bc (37 Reviews) Good Place to Fall Back on for Lunch Whenever I can't think about a restaurant to go to for lunch, it's Richmond Sushi. Never fails.
I've always been happy with their selection during lunch. Mind you, it's definitely nothing fancy, but for 10 bucks a person, what can I expect. However, freshness is key when serving raw fish, and they don't disappoint. The fish, for the times, I've been there is always fresh! Yea!
My only disapptmt. is the service. It looks like most of the staff aren't happy serving people, or it could be they're overworked. Anyways, the service I've never been impressed with. But as I said before, for 10 bucks a pop, I kind of expected this. On the bright side, I don't tip. hee hee.

| Added Apr 24, 2008 by chefmom of richmond (15 Reviews) We are done with this place Richmond Sushi is fun. It is bright, busy, and the service is quick. We have been many many times, but Sunday night put us off for good. The food was worse than usual. The sushi must have been made the previous day , it was waxy and tasteless. The miso looked and tasted like brown water. Of course the place was packed, filled with young adults stuffing themselves and chatting with their friends. The food is edible if you soak eveything in soy and wasabi. |
| Added Apr 23, 2008 by bestofthebest of richmond (5 Reviews) Not what it used to be I was in the restaurant on the weekend. Surely this restaurant isn't what it used to be. The service clearly isn't there. I had to wait 15 minutes just to get my soft drink. I think they had forgotten about it. The staff is there for the sake of their job and certainly attitute wise they aren't enthusiastic to serve. The food is decent. The all you can eat menu is getting more and more expensive these days. Its not fine dining and I don't think I want to burn a hole in my wallet for all you can eat. |
| Added Apr 19, 2008 by Sushifood of Richmond (3 Reviews) Good every once in awhile
I still come here once in awhile. Richmond Sushi seems like has been in Richmond forever already. This restaurant doesn't have much style but the food can be quite solid. The service is decent at best. Its still good for a quick bite every once in awhile but certainly not my favourite in Richmond. It actually scared me to see a $30 dinner menu which wasn't even much more different than the cheaper ones. The lady says it has more Sashimi but its nothing special. I have other places I would prefer to go to at $30 per person. |
| Added Mar 29, 2008 by whygo of Vancouver/Victoria (7 Reviews) Food > Service > Ambiance Richmond Sushi is probably the best pound for pound AYCE sushi place in Town. The standard dinner menu is not bad, but if you want to splurge the Deluxe menu is REALLY "rice." Raw oysters, steak, lamb chops, tempura, sashimi and the list goes on and on. Oyster and seafood motayaki's are really nice, but I've been in a party of 4 and gone through 4-dozen raw oysters cuz they are fresh and usually very plump. The mango pudding is good, but the redbean spring rolls are even better! If you want a friendly smile and kiss-ass service go to Dedutch for some Pannekoeken. These PDA-armed waiters and waitresses serve the resturant with an efficiency unseen anywhere outside of Nike factories in China. |
| Added Mar 21, 2008 by incantare of Kitsilano, Vancouver (17 Reviews) good all you can eat experience We went to an all you can eat sushi for the first time and it was not bad at all, for what it is. It is not a buffet and it is not a high end sushi bar, so if that's what you are looking for, don't go.
We were a total of three people, this might affect our dining experience here. The more people you are with, the slower the service.
A bit on the pricey side ( 23$ before 9or 10 pm and late night diner is 12 $), but it is relative to how much you can eat. They have 2 prices for the all you can eat, one is cheaper and more limited and the other has a bit more choice.
The new york steak style beef was good, it is really thin, but well cooked and tasty, same foes for the chiken skewers.
The sashimi was good as well as the nigiri sushi. Nothing too extravagant but, fresh, which is the MOST important aspect of eating sushi.
The Agedashi Tofu was mediocre, it didn't come with a lot of sauce and it was too crispy...I gues the consistency of the tofu wasn't correct. The Tempura vegetables were good, a bit too greasy for my tase, but then again, tempura is deep fried!
The mango dessert was GREAT and it is includedi n the menu, so I don't know about any extra charges because I ordered it twice.
SERVICE: fast and efficent( they have these little blackberries so no forgetting the order) our hot meals were hot and our cold meals were fresh. We got there at about 8pm,so by the time it was getting really packed we were leaving, no complains about the service really.

The food is all you can eat sushi. Not disgusting like Shota certainly, but not a cullinary masterpiece either.
All and all, we've been there a dozen or so times, and its always been a very pleasent experience. |
| Added Feb 17, 2008 by bart_weisser of Vancouver (21 Reviews) Overpriced bad quality food We went to Richmond sushi for an all you can eat sushi. We found the menu a little pricey, and selection rather limited, compared to other similar outlets, but we decided to give it a try.
We found that the ingredients were not at all fresh. Chopped scallops tasted more like herring, the tempura was reheated from a microwave, and most of the hot food items we ordered were lukewarm at best. We didn't not order so much, but we felt very uncomfortable after the meal.
Considering this is the "de facto" home of the all you can eat sushi, we were very dissapointed by the overall experience. |
| Added Feb 15, 2008 by tavi of Vancouver (2 Reviews) Wonderful for a casual outing My family and I are regulars--usually partaking in the all you can eat menu. The food is excellent, portions decent, and only once out of the many times I have been here have I thought the service was lacking. Naturally, it's not the same quality or selection as what you would get at a higher end restaurant, but it's outstanding for what it is. Wonderful for a casual meal with family/friends. |
| Added Feb 14, 2008 by eatright of Richmond (2 Reviews) Cheap doesn't mean good The selections are very limited. I have been there on several occassions, and simply can not go back. The hot food is cooked all at once, and you may get it well after its best before date. Nothing worse than a Tempura that is cold, droopy and greasyor soup that is luke warm, pork that is so dried out because it is so overcooked from being so thin, it is like the breading itself with nothing in between. There is hardly any choices in sashimi, and the salmon is farmed. Everything is extra, even a piece of lemon. You are jammed up against the next table, and it is all about turn over, eat and get moving, don't worry about getting comfortable, it won't happen here. |
| Added Jan 29, 2008 by anticop8 of Vancouver (13 Reviews) Pretty decent all you can eat late night Had the late night all you can eat.
Food - Food was pretty good, not to the level of fine dine sushi, but level was good for all you can eat. oysters taste and size were alright, not so small that you can't even find it in the ocean of cheese in the shell. No Sashimi, just salmon/tune sushi for the all you can eat late night menu.
Service - the waiters' service were alright, not paying much attention to the customers, just want to take down what you want to order and seems like in a hurry to do other things. But food arrived pretty fast, usually within 5 min. after ordering.
Overall - pretty good overall for the all you can eat menu. |
| Added Jan 22, 2008 by pilipeeno of richmond (3 Reviews) Used to be my favorite sushi restaurant I used to go here for all you can eat almost every friday night for the last 5yrs. The Salmon sashimi was so fresh it would melt in my mouth, the staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome, they would give us mango pudding even if it wasn't on the menu and on occasion give us pitchers of pop. Through the years my cousins and I would meet here to eat and catch up on things, it was great. All that has changed, the salmon is cut smaller, food is not that good, oysters are no longer served in the shell, the service seemed to be cut as well. We asked for our mango pudding once and the manager told us that we would have to pay more. If you gave it to us regularly and then change your mind, don't be rude about it. I don't go there anymore because of the service, they used to be warm but then I realized, it's a business they just wanted us to come back, but I know for sure I won't. It's ok, there are many other sushi restaurants that surpass this one in service and quality of food. Service is important, it's not always about profit. I suggest to management to think about that the next time they sit a customer at a table. |

service i admit could be improved. very typical asian restaurant service style: no smiles, quick responses, always look like they're in a hurry. we had a man take our order looking like he was impatient.
it's a pretty good deal if you want decent all you can eat japanese food. for the next birthday celebration, my friends and i will probably go again! |
| Added Nov 7, 2007 by fussyeater of Vancouver (10 Reviews) cheap, decent EAYC For the price, Richmond Sushi offers decent food. You don't eat here expecting Tojo-quality food, which some reviewers appear to do. Still, for inexpensive and tasty Japanese, Richmond Sushi is hard to beat. |

even worse was the service... the first guy that took our order.. was a complete mute...he did not say a SINGLE word...even when we asked him a question.. he just stood there.. then walked away.. i was @_@
i really regret going there and would probably never go back...for $24/person i can get much better meals elsewhere..what i regret more is that i actually still gave 5% tips.. shoulda been zero |
| Added Oct 19, 2007 by charmmy of Vancouver (14 Reviews) it's ok.. not the best i've seen but it's not too bad. it's hard to get the servers attention not because they have a lot of customers but it seems as if they haven't hired enough people. While most of the food is lacking in taste I absolutely adore their curry coquette. |
| Added Oct 18, 2007 by Dick_Cho of Marpole, Vancouver (10 Reviews) Richmond Sushi & Top Gun Kingsway It's fairly priced for all you can eat especially if you go there for night special after 9:30 pm. Don't expect great service, ok to order 'till you drop over their wireless handheld device. Sometimes a few dishes may not come cuz they're given to next table. But it's ok cuz you can order more. Same owner of Top Gun in New West and on Kingsway and Boundary. No liquor licence for the one on Kingsway, but hey, all you can eat.... |
| Added Sep 22, 2007 by farahfoods of surrey (26 Reviews) service and food has been sliding? Think I agree with some of the recent reviews about this place falling out of favour? I can say it's always busy and food is always fast and never worse than decent but service can be shotty and the menu's seem to have changed with three price options and only the most expensive choice have a huge range of choices. When we're looking for all-you-can-eat sushi Shabusen is te number one choice and Richmond Sushi seems to be the alternative when Shabusen is full or when we're close by in Richmond and time is tight. |
| Added Sep 4, 2007 by ryyeung of Richmond (28 Reviews) Better than most AYCE In writing this review, I'm only comparing Richmond Sushi against other AYCE. There is a reason why this place was one of the original places that started AYCE and why it has outlasted so many other clones. When you go to these places, you just want to get stuffed with food, not enjoy authentic Japanese food. Mostly people downing this place are trailer trash who think they know Japanese food.
Food: Pretty good, they comes out really fast as they are probably pre-made. The oyster motoyaki is hot and fresh. The sushi portions are good, and no fishy smell. The short ribs is tender. Richmond Sushi has a good selection compared to other AYCE places.
Service: They should really smile more. Fast and efficient, they get your order correct with the PDA they use. Not here for service, just to stuff my face. Empty dishes were cleared quickly. Definitely better thatn Sui Sha Ya
Ambiance: Not much. Just a couple of Japanese posters. Cleaniless is ok, I don't think it will get shut by Health Canada lile Aji Taro, where I had a cockroach in my salad.

| Added Sep 4, 2007 by hungryfordinner of Vancouver (76 Reviews) The Usual Food: AYCE quality, nothing special here. I liked their BC rolls.
Service: I was really disapointmented when the (manager?) joked about charging $5 to take a picture for us. Very distasteful. Also, I had to practically WAVE IN FRONT of a waitress to get her attention. '
Ambiance: Crowded.

| Added Aug 4, 2007 by mhder of vancouver (14 Reviews) It's an all you can eat I'll begin by saying that I am not a fan of all you can eat. When I eat out, I want to see different types of fish and specials I have never seen before. Yes, that is an unfair statement to make in a review for an all you can eat restauarant but I make it as an argument to all my friends who tell me that this is a great overall japanese restaurant. I'm afraid what might be getting ratings as a good japanese restaurant = cheap prices and leaving full. As an all you can eat restaurant, it's fairly decent, maybe one of the better ones. Food is alright, service isn't awful and everything runs smoothly. As a Japanese restaurant.. Well let's say it isn't a "real" restaurant. I tried not to be too biased in my scores, I judged it as an all you can eat. Note: The reviewer has submitted a more recent review for this restaurant. | Added Jul 25, 2007 by seasons_PT of Richmond (6 Reviews) Inconsistently good At first, I thought Richmond sushi would be the sushi that represented Richmond. Let it now be known that the name does not make the place better. These guys are good, then get bad the next visit. Since I believe in second chances, I decide to give another few tries and they're all pretty decent. Then downhill again. I don't go to Richmond Sushi anymore because I've found some place better but it isn't as bad as some say. The food is about the same quality as any other AYCE restaurant and there's nothing really wrong with the service. Sometimes they're slow but only because they've got too few people handling too many tables. Sometimes, they have 3 or 4 men handling over 15 tables. The PROBLEM is that they all want to deliver food, and nobody wants to check up on the customers. Decent place, but I've moved on =) |
| Added Jul 24, 2007 by Azusa of Burnaby (39 Reviews) It is alright, if your expectations are low. I was in the area and my friends wanted to have sushi. Based on that whim, somebody said "Richmond Sushi!". Since nobody had an objection (I myself haven't been there before), we went there and arrived just before noon.
When we got there (group of 4), we were told there was no table available but was given the option to sit at the bar. Since we were hungry, we didn't mind... (more on this below). So, we were seated, given the menu and started to order after a couple of minutes.
We ordered the usual suspects of a sushi AYCE, including some items you don't usually find, like fried scallops (tasted OK, though a waste of scallops), scallop roll (OK, though almost at room temperature) and spare ribs (again, OK). As for the usual suspects (California roll, motoyaki, chicken karrage, chicken teriyaki, miso soup, et al) were usually OK in a general sense, though with some small issues. Things that could be piping hot (teriyaki chicken, motoyaki), were room temperature. Likewise, items that could be "cold" (rolls, sushi, et al), were, again, room temperature. As another reviewer mentioned, this most probably means they were pre-made and just waiting for people to order.
Service was OK. Dishes were remove soon after we finished them and then they asked us if we wanted to order anything else. Most of the dishes took a while to arrive at the bar; and one item was "lost" in the queue. What puzzles me is that, if items were pre-made (otherwise, how they could be "room temperature"?), why it takes so long?
Ambiance, well, not much to talk about. We found out the hard way it is not a good idea to be seated in the bar as the people waiting for a table kept looking at us, almost drooling. Not fun...
Overall, it is a slightly above average AYCE sushi place (that does not mean much, though). I might go there if my friends want to go; however, it is unlikely I would be the one making the suggestion. |
| Added Jul 18, 2007 by Killer of Steveston, Richmond (1 Reviews) Worst 'All You Can Eat I've' been to My friends and I go to All you can eat sushi frequently and decided that we were sick of Sui Sha Ya (Not that great either but way better than this place) so I went with just one friend to scope out Richmond Sushi. It was a painful experience.
The Service is what ruined the place for us. It was not busy at all. There was about 15 people tops, using maybe 5 tables, including my friend and I. We too had to flag someone down before they would take our order. Which with AYCE I think is stupid because at all the other AYCE places I've gone to they give you a sheet and a pencil to increase efficiency. Anyways we ordered tons of food covering hot and cold foods.
10 minutes later we each get a miso soup so we figured our food would start coming now. Well nothing came after that. We waited another 15 minutes and still nothing so we asked somebody and they just quickly said 'Yeah it's coming' and walked off. Another 20 minutes pass with no food, and this is the icing on the cake, our server comes back with her notepad and says "Are you ready to order now?" We tried to explain that we already ordered a long time ago and only one item came but she just kept saying things like "No order. I give you new order" in broken english so we reluctantly order the same damn thing again. And then we had to wait another 10 for THAT food to come. It finnally comes and by this time we've waited almost an hour for our damn food to come and being that they have a 1.5 hour time limit we only had 30 minutes before they kicked us out. So by the time we had eaten that food they wouldn't let us order any more so we went to pay for it and they make us wait again for another 10 minutes before we get the stupid bill!
All in all it was the worst service I've ever gotten in any kind of restaurant. And I remind you, it was not busy. The entire time we were there they were at about %10 of their capacity. I never went back again. |
| Added Jul 18, 2007 by Pooky of Richmond (15 Reviews) One bad experience puts this on my blacklist I honestly think that food-wise, this is one of the better All You Can Eat Sushi places. Although they mess up orders sometimes, it's not a big deal. They have a big selection. However, I had a terrible experience here that I cannot forgive them for.
My family and I were going to go here for my sister's birthday. We had reserved a booth ahead of time for 7pm. When we went there, they gave us a tiny table at the very front (closest to the door). We said that we had reserved a booth. It was even noted in their reservation book that we were to get a booth. They said that they had no booths available. When we asked for an explanation, the manager (or head waitress, I don't know) said that they were open before 7pm, that they had customers who came in before 7pm who wanted the booth, and that's why we don't get the booth. Despite arguing that we had a reservation for a booth for 7pm, she told us to take the small table, or go somewhere else. So we left and went to Tokyo Ichiban instead, where they service staff was very nice to us.
I will never be going to Richmond Sushi again. Not because they gave away our reserved booth, but because of their take it or leave it attitude. I realize that they were busy, but that is no reason to brush us off. |
| Added Jun 17, 2007 by pearly_whites of Vancouver (10 Reviews) Good price, alright food. A good selection for a pretty good all you can eat pricing. However, the oysters and other cooked food were not something you would drool over; stick to sushi and cold food for their late night all you can eats. |
| Added May 30, 2007 by mmmmmm of Vancouver (8 Reviews) Very accommodating & pleasant staff for AYCE sushi FOOD was generally tasty and quantities ordered were actually honoured (unlike Tomokazu) for AYCE. What stood out the most was that although there were vegetarian items available for order, upon hearing that there was a vegetarian at the table (me), the wait staff arranged for the chef to send out special unique items for my sampling pleasure :) Maybe such service enhances flavour but I really enjoyed these pieces as they were seasoned and crafted very nicely :)
SERVICE was wonderful as the staff was accommodating and pleasant and as mentioned before, very attentive to my friend's casual offhand mention that I was a vegetarian.
AMBIANCE was decent, more brightly lit even during late-night. Casual. |
| Added Mar 4, 2007 by turbos86 of Richmond (12 Reviews) Let me take my time, it's AYCE, not the ARMY This place always gave me the impression it caters to anyone who has no knowledge of anything Japanese.
Service: Took a while to get seated for just 2 people. Once seated, the servers just left the menus on our table and walked off, acting all busy. When we were ready to order, we waved down a guy holding a pda. He didn't even bother looking at me while I was giving him my order. Instead, his eyes wandered off in all direction (probably to check if other tables needed attention). I felt great pressure from him when I made a pause looking for the item in the long menu. He gave me this impatient look, as if I was wasting his time. The food came pretty fast and no clear mistakes on the order. However, after finish eating the second round of food, one guy came over and asked if we were done. They were clearly rushing us out the door. I told him I still wanted to order more food, and he took my order. As we were finishing up, I noticed a couple of waiters had crowded up behind me. Just as I thought, as we got up and were about to leave, they raided the table and quickly set it up for the next group.
Ambiance: Beside a couple of big sake signs and lanterns with random Kanji written on them, I didn't find anything remotely Japanese with this place. It was noisy and felt quite cheesy.
Food: The food came very quickly, so quick that it made me suspect they were pre-made or even *gasp* pre-heated! The taste was ok, but everything seems to be warm, even food that are supposed to be cold. Afterall, it's AYCE, don't expect so much in terms of quality.
My sister later told me, she saw a kitchen staff there used the same knife to cut raw and cooked food. She never went back, and neither will I. |
| Added Jan 27, 2007 by gloriasit of vancouver (38 Reviews) Late Night all you can eat I read a few reviews here a few nights ago and decided to give it a try with my dad. We went there at about 9:30, and they took names down for the late night menu crowd. I thought it was quite professional of them having this type of system so it gives their employees a break, and it shows to me that they're taking their jobs seriously. Although the food is about average "all you can eat" quality, their service was well better than others! We had only one waitress in our area and she kept asking for tea refill and if we wanted to order more. As well, I noticed that for our seating area there are 2 servers that serves the food so thei waitress wouldn't have to work so hard. Food = okay. Service = well beyond any other all you can eat places i've been to |

Very good and fresh, more expensive than most, but worth every penny. Good place for work lunches, and they have private rooms too. Ambiance is not their strong point, but they are clean and well lit. |
| Added Nov 6, 2006 by reuben of richmond, bc (37 Reviews) All you can eat doesn't get better than this All You Can Eat" doesn't get better than Richmond Sushi. Fast Service, friendly staff, funny Hosts (the 2 fellas at the front), and most importantly, super fresh seafood.
Huge sushi rolls at this place. Alaskan rolls, a combination between a california roll with raw salmon and fish roe, look like rolls on "steroids". In other words, these rolls are truly the biggest rolls I've ever seen. Equally the salmon and tuna rolls are equally as impressive. They have huge pces of sashmi on top of a small ball of rice. Proportionally, the sashimi overwhelmes the rice ~ just the way I like it.
The oyster motoyaki is delicious. Rich cream/mayo tops the fresh shelled oyster.
Lunch is cheap at 9.95 / person.
Anyways, I'm just always impressed with the food everytime I go for lunch. Note: The reviewer has submitted a more recent review for this restaurant. This review does not affect the overall rating and is displayed for information purposes only. |
| Added Oct 7, 2006 by 23days of Richmond (7 Reviews) Overall, good Richmond Sushi is probably the place I usually go for AYCE. I like their Deluxe Dinner Menu because it has a lot of variety compared to other places.
Their service is also very friendly, and funny. However, they do frequently mix up orders especially on busy days like evening weekends. You might end up getting the neighbour tables' orders and vice versa. If you go on weekends, also book reservations because it's very busy if you go there without reservations. From my experience, the food also seemed better on week nights.
Their pop is also a good deal, not expensive and big cup. |

(1) Service is fast and fair, the severs don't talk too much but friendly enough. (2) They are NOT stingy like some other all-u-can eat Japanese restaurants when they give you your orders. They are always in big portions. (3) Raw fish are VERY FRESH! and it's a MUST for a Japanese restaurant since you eat them raw.
Highly recommended!! |
| Added Sep 21, 2006 by vball_guy of surrey (33 Reviews) This place it a riot Myself and a few friends went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and before we were asked how many in our party one of the managers thought my cellphone was some type of firearm which was pretty funny. Another manager liked my brother's Guns and Roses shirt and started to sing Welcome to the Jungle, wow good times.
The food here was excellent although when my brother wanted to order a BC roll the waiter was honest gave us all a strange look and said "you don't want that, very bad" Hey if a guy who works there and says something is bad I ain't gonna eat it.
Service was very fast and they use PDA's to run things more effeciantley even though they forgot a few things but even then it was fine.
Only hard part was what to order because of all the choices, my only negative thing was the Spicy Chicken Roll. The chili sauce they put on it bore a hole into my stomach. |
| Added Aug 21, 2006 by moussy of Vancouver (60 Reviews) Changes in Menu Went here yesterday...last time I came here was in May and it was for dinner. I went for lunch this time. The lunches are very affordable - 10.95 on weekdays and 11.95 on weekends.
First thing we noticed was that the menu had changed. The sashimi did not have limits - it was completely excluded out of the regular menu. However, they now have this option where you just add 3 bucks to get UNLIMITED sashimi but we chose not to.
The food selection is always good at Richmond Sushi. It's comparable to Shabusen, but not equally as good. Some of the sushis are awesome, and some are not. I recommend trying the spicy tuna, beef short ribs, shrimp shumai and curry croquette. Maki rolls are good as always. The chicken teriyaki roll isn't so great, in my opinion. The chicken knees are alright as well. Tonkatsu went down in quality, and the teriyakis can be hot or lukewarm, it always depends. But nevertheless this place is always good and the service is friendlier than usual ayce. The waiters were really nice to us and gave us lots of refills and took our plates away quickly.
A recommended ayce place to go. I have yet to try ebei, kishu poppo and tanpopo as they are currently getting good reviews. But this place will always be one of the top for sushi ayce. |
| Added Aug 20, 2006 by ghowell of Surrey (6 Reviews) Yummy Sushi Hey, Richmond Sushi is a great feast. Staff is friendly. The service is inconsistent though. If you order 18 Sashimi you might get 12, they often miss items ordered. BUT...they always end up getting the items after a fee reminders. They recently went to a PDA ordering system and the service is getting a bit better. Still miss items ordered...which is somewhat annoying. They are more expensive than Kisha Poppo downtown and do NOT include Green Tea ice cream. For the price they charge they should include ice cream. The food is good though...so go if you're hungry!! |
| Added Aug 10, 2006 by butterflykawaii of Vancouver (16 Reviews) Overly rated I think this restaurant is a bit overly rated. For all you can eat, it's very good and it does the trick. It isn't really Japanese if you happen to be a picky Japanese foodie, or even Japanese for that matter, don't eat here. You won't like it. If you like bulk food, good and fresh and you won't get sick. This is the place. Just remember it does it's purpose which is to feed the hungry stomach and mouths of people wanting something akin to Japanese cuisine.
I know for a fact you can't speak to any of the waitresses there in Japanese. They don't speak Japanese and you can't get Japanese service.
But like I said, it is very good for the all you can eat. In fact I would recommend this place over the other bulk eateries in town. |
| Added Aug 10, 2006 by twiisted_fate of Richmond (2 Reviews) Wonderful. Food: The food is delicious. The sushi is made quick, but it still tastes really good. Lots of assortment of sushi and other dishes, like the teryaki chicken and noodles and soups and, believe it or not, salads.
Service: The service is great. Waiters and servers are friendly. You ask them for something, and whether they have it or not, they're still nice about it.
Ambiance: It's a vibrant place buzzing with either large crowds or couples out on a date. It's nice to have a good meal and watch a game on TV. Décor is bright and colorful. |

Since highschool, me and a group of friends have been going here almost every friday or saturday night... religiously!!!! We go there because they have great food, good service and are able to accomodate large groups. Everything from their sushi, to their tempura to their short ribs are amazing.... and consistant.. We have tried many other restaurants but none have been as consistant at RS! |
| Added May 21, 2006 by chasiubow of North Van (673 Reviews) Much Improved I stopped going to RS after a not so hot experience last winter, but today I can report that the AYCE lunch has improved. The salmon and tuna sushi are just the right size with nice fresh fish. The rolls were less terrific, but still pretty good.
I also tried the chicken wings (hot and crispy), motoyaki, deep fried tofu, and the BBQ salmon (get the salmon!). They have all improved over my experience last time. The service was very good, especially from Dave, who came over to chat and ask how we liked the various dishes. We had one newbie who ordered too much despite our warnings, and he didn't get penalized since he tried his best to finish ;). That was a lucky break.
The washrooms could be a bit cleaner, and the gyoza a bit hotter, but I have to say this place has improved. Like the previous reviewer, I noticed the PDA's for entering orders, and it really sped up the process. Plus the waiters seem WAY less harried than before. A good lunch for the price.

Food: they've got a wide variety on their menu. i tried the chicken knee joint for the first time and thought it was really tasty. basically little pieces of deep fried cartilage. the tempura isnt over battered. salmon and tuna pretty good.
Service: they're taking orders off these little hand held PDA looking things now. i swear as soon as he entered it in and walked away, not 1 min later, we got our gyoza!! we didn't even get our miso soup yet!! def no complaints about this new system they have going. i have to agree w/ other reviews that this place like other chinese restaurants, it not about customer service. it's more about efficiency and turnover.
Ambiance: i like how we can eat sushi and watch the game at the same time! busy busy busy. constant servers going in and out. i used the washroom and the toilet seats have the sani wrap contraption...but there was no sani wrap! what's the point?! atleast it didn't smell funny in there after stuffing myself w/ all you can eat.
Overall: i'd have to say this place is fairly consistent. never had a bad experience here yet, so we'll def be back. |

The sushi rice was perfect that night, motoyakis were pretty good, overall they have done a good job improving their taste, on par with Tampopo. I'd definitely come back again. |
| Added Mar 16, 2006 by epicurious of Burnaby, BC (523 Reviews) I didn't get sick here! I really don't think "an excellent sushi buffet" exists, but this one is probably one of the better ones out there.
Food: Lots of items to choose from on the menu. They do put a little more effort into preparing the food compared to some other restaurants. The raw stuff doesn't have a fishy taste to it.
Service: Difficult to wave down a server, and if you do, don't expect a friendly smile. They want you to eat and leave.
Ambiance: I gave this a "poor" because the place seems clean, but when you actually do some investigating, you'll discover sticky tables with a layer of "something" on top. A few times, I've had cups with lipstick still on it and floaties in my cup. |
| Added Feb 14, 2006 by fresh of Richmond (11 Reviews) Good Food but Pricey The place isn't all that nice but for some reason, there's always a lot of people, specially on the weekend. The food is pretty good. The service is ok. There's not a lot of parking so you'll either have to park on the other side of the plaza or wait for a few minutes. It's pretty pricey here too, hence the title of this review. |

The ribs actually gave my bf an upset stomach. The wings still had hair/leftover wing on them... gross. The gyoza came cold. The tempura was really greasy. Come to think of it, my stomach was not feeling well for the rest of the night either. If only I could give no stars for food.
Service: We had to repeatedly ask for tea and water. And waiters should really not berate other waiters in front of customers - it's mean and made our experience just a little more depressing.
Ambiance: Just a stereotypical restaurant with nothing special to it. Better to just go to Daimasu - it's not all you can eat but you'll end up spending less for more food. Trust me as I found this out a week later eating Daimasu's late night menu. |
| Added Jan 17, 2006 by chasiubow of North Van (673 Reviews) All you can eat The regular sushi is average good and the roll sushi is just okay, but the all you can eat is a strong attraction. Go after 9pm or on a Sunday afternoon to get the price deals. A la carte ordering is just too expensive for what you get. The chicken wings and little smelts are great. Bottom line: food is fresh, but not worth it if it wasn't all you can eat. Note: The reviewer has submitted a more recent review for this restaurant. | Added Dec 11, 2005 by Bobeater of East Vancouver (64 Reviews) Richmond Sushi A-okay! Richmond is known for late night sushi and other things. This place is pretty good. I really enjoyed coming here after a hockey game. The atmosphere is busy thought, young asians buzzing the joint and the rush-rush enviroment makes it hard to relax and enjoy your food.
The service is really speedy and I have no problems with that. However, there is one problem with the food. The oyster thing with the cheese (or fat) that most people don't like is my main target. Twice (or three times) I ordered it; it came out really small. So small that it was the size of half of your computer mouse. I mentioned this problem I face because I am paying for the food and the waiter said that: They are randomly picked out of a tub. I understand that, but why did my friends all get a large one and I got a dinky one?
So, the place is good, but I have matters to deal with. |
