The service was slow and our particular waitress was not at all helpful. Futhermore, we were here during the heat wave and the place was cooking, despite the windows being open, and the fans being operational. Would recommend the Cactus Club down the street (towards Cambie) instead for a more enjoyable experience at the same price point. |

Found a piece of chicken and than was told that actually all their main dishes use chicken stock, even the ones without meat. I know this is commonplace, but most chains have notes on the menu saying that dishes can be made vegetarian or are veg friendly. Earl's says nothing anywhere. I always prefer Cactus Club as they have better food, a better menu and are more accommodating for vegetarians and kids. |

| Added Mar 19, 2009 by Foodiebynature of Vancouver (12 Reviews) Consistent Love Earl’s but they need to return basics. The décor is too fancy for casual dining though very nice not necessary. As long time patron of Earls I’m disappointed at the price increase on the basics menu items and noticeable decrease in portion sizes.
For example at one time a Chicken Caesar was less $10.00, now it’s $10.00 for the Caesar salad alone and the chicken add on is $4.00.
I dined at Earls this afternoon during the lunch rush it was chaotic. Our server was nice enough but kept forgetting things such as cream for our teas and coffees. At times, she seemed confused as to what we were asking for and would bring back something totally different.
Wait, was okay, not overly long. The food came quickly, it was piping hot and as always mouth-watering. I had the Spicy chicken wings, which sadly were not that spicy but they were cooked well and they were succulent. My Caesar salad was crisp, fresh, with just the right amount of dressing…perfect!!
The dessert menu sadly is very sparse. Gone are the day of apple crisps, Tiramisus and THE EVER POPULAR Mocha Khula pie. Instead, it has been replaced with boring, uncreative selections such as NY Cheesecake with the gelatin blueberry compote, Gelato sundaes (gelato supplied by Mario’s Gelato on East 2nd) and some fancy French cream-puffs and the sticky toffee pudding (by far the best dessert on the menu). I’m surprised that a restaurant with such an extensive menu would offer only four average desserts…a shame really! My friend recommends that perhaps to get better dessert value you should go to Mario’s Gelato yourself.
Overall, I’ll still go to Earls but just on special occasions. |

| Added Feb 21, 2009 by Digby_Scallops of out there (36 Reviews) Quick Stop Was in Vanc and on the south side of the bridge. My daughter wanted a club sandwich but not at The Pantry, so we stopped in first at Cactus Club ( I must say i really liked the feel of this location & the look, but no club) so we walked across the street to Earll's.
They were busy but accomodated us almost immediately in the lounge/outside covered patio area. The place is one big entertainment centre with big screen TV's and the golf is on. I go to the washroom and the wife has us sitting right in front of one. I like it altready.
Not terribly hungry so i order the sushi appy, the daughter the Chicken Club and the wife the kungpou. 2 drinks and the tab comes in at $50, all satisfied and in and out in an hour.
Food quality high as I always find Earl's to be. Service was very good (I do wish this site would have something between solid & outstanding in their ranking system). |

Everything was very busy and lines were out the door at most places, so against my better judgement, I went to Earl's. I got the New york steak, which was tough and tasted like leather, and the sides weren't much better. The service was abismal, and it I had to walk out the door to get noticed so I could pay my bill. Overall, I wouldn't recommend going to Earl's if you have other options. |

Usually this place is decent; good-looking young efficient staff takes care of you and the food is usually solid. But occasionally a dish will be poor (limpy soggy caesar salad) but that's rare. Food is better than nearby Cactus Club or Swiss Chalet. Parking can be a challenge so park it on Henning. Earl's has become a Vancouver institution and it's well deserved. |

| Added Oct 22, 2008 by ltsell of Vancouver (2 Reviews) Service Required The food at Earl's is always good. Very consistent and fresh. The service is almost always spotty at this location. Too much talking at the bar with there staff and friends. As for the value rating the food is OK but the drinks especially the beer is over priced. The place has nice decor and the sound is usually at a nice level. |

| Added Oct 20, 2008 by Bonka of Vancouver (290 Reviews) Good for a game We trotted down here for the remaining period of a Canuck game. Sometimes I prefer a chain place over a pub/bar style dig.
We were greeted with a hostess opening the door and were seated fairly quickly after the hostess checked to see if we could get a booth (which we did front centered to the tv). It was especially busy in the bar section.
I wanted something small so I ordered a Starter Caesar and Prawn Soft Tacos while the girlfriend got the Salmon Filet Entree. Drinks included a Coke, Glass of Keith's, a Caesar and we closed off with a Toffee Cake (it seemed a popular dessert item for the night).
Food came quickly. I Caesar Salad was one of the better ones I've had as of late but the croutons were different from the last time I had it here. The Prawn Soft Tacos were an interesting touch. It was savoury, sweet and a touch sour with the Avocado and Lime sauce. Steep as $10 only got you 2 pieces. Generous with the shrimps though. I had a few bites of the Salmon and it was decent. A touch overdone with the fish but the mashed potatoes were delicious. The Toffee Cake was a first for us and it was something you'd expect. It was hot, gooey and nicely presented with a brown sugar nest for the scoop of Vanilla Gelato.
Atmosphere was there. It was buzzing but never overly noisy until the Canucks scored in OT. Service was at the top of their game (seems to be for a chain place when everything clicks). We had a few servers wait on us for the evening and they were all polite, friendly and one was especially helpful when were flagged her down and asked her for a rundown and recommendation for the desserts.
We must've gone on a night where everything worked together and with great success. The food never steals the show (as you'd expect) but the service was excellent and with the Canuck win alongside the ambience, a great time was had. |

| Added Oct 17, 2008 by rmctavish of Shaughnessy, Vancouver (4 Reviews) Terrible, absolutely terrible Joe and I went here to get an appetizer to share and a couple of cold drinks and ended up getting neither.
There were several annoyed people waiting for tables in the foyer - there were tables to be had, but apparently no servers to clean off the mess of the previous patrons.
We were finally seated and the server - busy flirting at the bar with customers and staff alike - took over 20 minutes to give us menus.
The menu was pretty uninspiring and they have a shockingly poor selection of beer for a bar; so we left.
The waitress cheerily gave our table to another and wished us a pleasant afternoon - and seemed genuinely friendly about it rather than sarcastic or concerned; reactions our leaving might have prompted at other restaurants.
I won't be back to that particular location, nor any of their other locations. Ever. |

| Added Aug 2, 2008 by hungryfordinner of Vancouver (76 Reviews) Yay! Food: The food reminds me a little of White Spot, but the quality here is MUCH better. Yummy fries! The appetizers are HUGE, so just order one between two people..or you'll have trouble finishing your entree! (Order the artichoke/feta/spinach dip..it's delish!)
Service: Wow. I wasn't expecting such great service! Our waitress was very friendly and efficient, making sure that our drinks were full at all times!
Value: A bit on the pricey side, but not unexpected.
Ambiance: Very comfy chairs, spacious setting...I love it! |

The place was so loud you had to shout over the noise. The food was uninspired and way too salty. Also, the choices were dreadful, almost nothing healthful on the menu. It was also way overpriced. I had a little piece of salmon, with carrots and beets, like the cheapest vegetables on the planet, and it was close to $20!
I do not recommend this restaurant for anyone! |

| Added May 28, 2008 by Norman of Vancouver East (60 Reviews) Not this time I have never had a really bad meal at an Earl's, and I usually really like the pizza. Not this time. I ordered a Pizza Margherita, which is a simple tomato, mozzarella and basil combination. I got a cheese pizza with one little sprig of basil in the middle. Did someone forget to post the recipe in the kitchen? And, just to top it off, the crust wasn't up to the usual standard, either. I didn't say anything, but I won't order a pizza there again. |
| Added Jul 30, 2007 by jennlynn995 of Chicago, IL (3 Reviews) Great Food and Good Service My husband and I stopped at Earl's for lunch last week, and the food was outstanding. We both had a Spicy Wok dish. He had the Hunan Kung Pao and I had the Jeera Chicken Curry. I must say it was some of the best curry I've ever eaten - which I was surprised about because I wouldn't have thought this restaurant would have done so well with it. The jasmine rice was very good alone, but adding the curry sauce to it made it excellent. It had just enough kick for me, too. Not enough that I couldn't eat it - but just enough that I was drinking a glass of water, too! The naan bread also was a very nice touch to the meal. Perfect for dipping into the curry.
I didn't try my husband's dish, but he loved it. He can handle the hot stuff, but even he had to drink a lot of water - but that's how he likes it.
The service was very good, too. They were always refilling our sodas and water.
They have parking here, but it's not very big - but there is street parking. The atmosphere inside was very classic, and the patio where we sat was very nice for lunch.
Overall - great service and even better food. I would highly recommend the place. |
| Added Jun 24, 2007 by bright_mistake of North Van (1 Reviews) Good Service I really liked the server I had for this place, was willing to put up with 7 teenagers and still managed to have a smile on his face at the end of the night. The dessert with the hot fudge was to die for, well worth the $7.50 Unfortunately I found that the Cajun Chicken Cheese Sandwich had far too much salt in the chicken, I actually had to take out the meat to enjoy my sandwich properly. Other than that it's a great place to go with friends and have a good time in the busy atmosphere.

Food portions were small as usual and my glass of water was empty for at least 15 minutes before it was refilled. |
| Added Sep 12, 2005 by fella of Vancouver (72 Reviews) Better than it was Went to earls last night for dinner and was impressed with many of the new menu items. All the dishes we had were fresh, well presented, and very tasty. The service was as expected and friendly. they have just opened a store in the new Paramount building which i'm sure will become a popular hotpot. |
