Great Thai food. Nice staff
I've come here many times. The food is always done right and they have an excellent Tom Yum Gai soup which is grrreat if you have a cold.

Asking for "hot" instead of "medium" is for the seasoned. Just a heads up, but it can vary.

They usually prepare food very quickly if you live in Yaletown and want to just grab something to pick up.
I totally recommend:
Chicken Pad Thai, beef skewers, red chicken curry (in cocunut), and the lettuce wraps - usually at the top of my list, but then again I haven't tried too many other things on the menu!

Rude Services
My wife and I just went to the restaurant today for lunch. The food was just OK. We were disappointed with the service. One of the female servers was rude. She first came to our table to bring the menu. When she was ready to take our order, we asked whether we could use one of the dining coupon . She lied and answered that we could not use the coupon for lunch. However, it was stated that the coupon can be used either for dinner or lunch. Then, she went and she didn't come back to our table again. She still served the table beside our table. The other server served us.

One more thing: We got charged for $1 to get some fish sauce for our meal. I am not sure if this is normal and we didn't mind paying $ 1. However, for all the Thai restaurant we have had our meals, we were never got charged for asking some fish sauce.

Delicious
This was probably my tenth visit to Urban Thai Bistro and will definitely not be my last. The food is delicious and such a good value - especially if you have an Entertainment book!

My friend and I shared the appetizer thai spring rolls and then a couple of entrées - the House Seafood Combination, which consisted of grilled tiger prawns, clams, mussels, fish filet and squid served with green curry sauce in a foil wrap, as well as Gai Pad Ma - a boneless chicken dish with cashews and roasted chillis. They both had just the right amount of spice for those of us who like spicy food! The biggest 'test' for me is whether or not the squid is cooked properly, as it can get quite rubbery if overcooked. The squid here was perfect and the portions of seafood are very generous.

The coconut rice was cooked nicely and there was plenty of it. Even though we ate quite a lot, there was still enough left over for lunch the next day. I will keep coming back.

Good stuff
When I'm in Yaletown and hungry, this is where I go to eat. The staff are super friendly and very social, when time permits, and the food is fresh, delicious and plentiful.

My partner and I usually the dinner specials for 2, which are decent value and let us try a variety of dishes. We usually end up taking some home, and the leftovers are always excellent the next day for lunch!

The interior is clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated.

One of the Most authentic Thai in Vancouver with attentive staff
Food & service were great. Have been to Urban Thai Bistro several times now for both dine in and take out. The food is fresh and always hot. The Pad Thai is great and Chau Maung dumplings are tasty and original. There is only a handful of authentic Thai places that make this Red Curry served in a coconut is excellent. The staff are very friendly, always smiling and very polite and accomodating. One of the Best Thai in Vancouver!

Consistently Friendly Experiences.
I live in Yaletown and this is one of my favourite local restaurants. Since I moved to Vancouver from Montreal I have dined here many times and have always been impressed by the quality of the food and the service. I usually eat alone and as a retired single person I really appreciate the attentiveness of the servers and the fact that they come and talk with me before the meal or between courses. Their friendly approach is always welcome and never intrusive. The ambiance is particularly positive.
I have enjoyed various items on the menu but I am particularly fond of the cashew chicken (with the very long name in Thai) and the lamb chops with green curry and vegetables.
The meals are all very reasonably priced so the restaurant consistently provides good value. I intend to continue to be one of the regular patrons.

Bring a translator and low standards with you ?!
We went here to celebrate Canada Day, and the place was busy but had enough space to accomodate us.
After repeating to the server for the 5th time who ordered what, and explaining once again who was on which bill, we awaited our food anxiously and irritatedly.
As if ordering wasnt enough of a mix-up, the food came to us mishapped, and at different times of up to 20 minutes.
The food, might I add was flavorful, yet everything on the menu had a similarity of simply a soupy mixture of ingredients.
My food, I found had black peppers, and my awful decision to eat one caused a burning pain in my tongue ruining my appetite for the whole night and causing my pain to not go away after 5 glasses of ice water.
The servers were cold and rude, and didn't seem to be paying a whole lot of attention. Confusion and irritation were the two words I'd use to describe with, and it doesn't help that they couldn't understand a word we said, and vice versa.

I was not impressed and did not enjoy my evening. Don't expect my return :|

Weekend brunch was wonderful!
My boyfriend and I went there for lunch.
We both ordered the weekend brunch menu and it was a nice surprise!
It include a small bowl of soup, small salad, one spring roll, and main dish ( your choice from more than 10 options). For the location and what it was, $9 was pretty good deal.
Only disappointment was the Pad Thai, my boyfriend ordered. He liked it, but it was way too ketchupy! Many Thai restaurant make Pad Thai with ketchup or tomato sauce, which is not authentic at all!
But I really dont care so much because my dish was great for the price and I will come back on weekend again soon.

Great Thai Dinner
Took my wife for her b-day last week. Service was prompt and the waiter was very friendly and made us feel at home. Nice atmosphere overall for a special night out as a couple. Red curry with chicken can't be beat as well as the spicy green beans. We like Thai food so good curries are very important to us, and the curries here were right on. Will be back for sure as everything that night was really impressive.

okay place for thai
Had lunch there recently.. didn't go for the lunch combo but went for their regular dishes off the menu. Had the Pad Thai, Ma Maung Zong Krong (with Chicken, mango and cashew nuts), and spring rolls. The spring rolls were very good... not oily compared to some other places. Pad Thai was not the best I had but still very good.. didn't have the heavy Ketchup taste that some othe restaurants have. Overall I was happy with the food and would return.

great restaurant - what's with those aprons?
we are regulars at Urban Thai bistro and always find the staff friendly and welcoming. the food is great, particularly the papaya salad. we go often enough that we don't even use a menu and the staff knows exactly what to order. The only question I have is "what is with those new aprons?" The staff looked so much more professional and approachable just wearing black shirts and pants. We found amusement during the whole meal commenting on the entirely unflattering and unappealing revision in uniform. We couldn't decide whether they would be better described as maternity gowns (the aprons make even the men look pregnant) or x-ray lab technicians lead aprons. Somebody please get rid of these monstrosities. Aside from that, great service, atmosphere, and food.

solid lunch specials
picked this place to go have lunch with some family and came across their lunch specials which were reasonably priced ($8 gives you a choice of chicken, beef or pork with a spring roll and rice)... ordered this spicy chicken with cashews which i thought was very tasty but the other green curry chicken was just normal, nothing that wowed my taste buds, the same went with the pad thai noodles that were bland.
their service was good, came by often to refill water and brought the food in a timely fashion (mainly because the place was not busy at all) but thats about it, no complaints there.
overall, worthwhile to check out because of the cheap lunch specials... especially in this part of vancouver where most of the restaurants are much more expensive so if you are a fan of thai food, definitely give it a go.

Brunch Combo Hidden Secret
Not sure how many people know but along with their amazing daily lunch specials for only $8, Urban Thai has other fancier weekend lunch combos for a couple bucks more. Splurged, well, actually, it was only $11.50 and it doesn't break the budget at all... had the most delish platter of noodles and eggs and veggies. It came with the house salad, soup, calamari and coconut rice. My friend had a different platter with their famous green curry. It was a great meal to unwind after the week, and we went away impressed. The service was good even when the place was really busy. Overall, we would recommend anyone to try it, and the location couldn't be beat in Yaletown where everything is cool.

Great Brunch Combo
My boyfriend and I had an amazing Thai brunch. It was a great value but best of all, the food was really good. It came with soup, salad, calamari and coconut rice along with the entree. Definitely very filling. I had the platter with their creamy curry with lots of fresh veggies like eggplant and green peppers which I love in curry. The curry was spicy the way I like it and very creamy which is what good Thai curry should taste like. It came with Roti which we love and is great for dipping. My boyfriend had a stir fry noodle dish with egg which was tasty too. There were also some other specials worth trying as well but overall, we were very happy with our selections, and the price was very decent for what you got. Best of all, each meal was only $11.50 before drinks. It was a great way to unwind for the weekend.

Amazing All You Can Eat!!!
Okay, my bf and I aren't the types to gush about a restaurant and be compelled to write about it but we had to share this place with everyone. as it was really that good. We heard that the Urban Thai had an All-You-Eat weekend lunch special so we went with a couple friends to try it out in Yaletown. The brunch was amazing value as we can all eat, especially if the food is good. The dishes were impressive for an All-You-Can-Eat. Had everything from spring rolls, wings, calamari to start and then had chicken yellow curry with veggies and green curry with eggplant. We couldn't get enough of their spicy beans and special sauce. We like a good balance of veggies to offset the meat, and there were plenty to choose from. The dessert was pretty good and new to us - creamy dark rice pudding with coconut milk. Yum! Could go on and on but can't remember all the dishes we tried but these stood out. We love variety and this place rocked it. Best of all it only cost each of us $12.95 before tax & tips. Good service even when it was busy, great food and a amazing value overall. Cheap eats are plenty around town but the difference is that this was really good food with lots of variety, and you will want to go back again for more, and not just for their specials.

Authentic Som Tom Malagor
I was there for lunch when I was downtown tow weeks ago Friday. I must say that I rarely dare to order Green Papaya Salad in Canada. Most Thai restaurants in Vancouver don't make it right (a lot substitute vinegar for the Lime to save money). These guys assured me it has home made Thai style and I was pleasantly surprised.

It tasted authentic much like what they make right on the beach in Ko Samui. Paired with a Tiger Beer from Thailand this was a great light lunch with come serious kick. If you're brave ask for it "Thai HOT."

Worst Pad Thai Ever
I just came home from dinner at Urban Thai and am still trying to get the taste out of my mouth. While I have yet to find any restaurant in Vancouver that can make a great pad thai noodle, this was without a doubt the worst I have ever had. The "prawns" were small tasteless shrimp, the sauce was mostly ketchup, the crushed peanuts were a small sprinkling of peanut sand, and the entire dish was a tasteless glutinous mass. The very nice and accommodating server offered to bring me something else. She agreed that the pad thai was not like what they ate back home in Thailand. She suggested another noodle dish, although the name now escapes me. It won't matter because after my second mouthful (second only because I had to make sure I had tasted correctly the first time), I bagan to long for the pad thai. This dish was pretty much the most horrible thing I have ever had. It was the same noodles as in the pad thai, but this time saturated in a very salty tamarind type sauce. It contained what I was told was minced chicken, chopped green beans and what appeared to be an entire bunch of fried basil on type. My companion ordered a chicken dish in green curry sauce, which was okay, if you like your food very salty and otherwise unremarkable. Please Vancouver, figure out how to make pad thai!!! And by the way, you can actually put chicken and shrimp in the pad thai at the same time.

Must Visit Lunch Spot in Yaletown
Unbelievable that you can get a $8 or $9 dine-in lunch in Yaletown without sacrificing food quality. This place does just that. They have a bunch of set meals in the 8 and 9$ ranges. You get a spring roll, some chopped up lettuce (salad), rice, and the main. It's quite filling and the curry is extremely rich. I always dine at this place whenever I'm in the area.

Not sure of the authenticity of this place but the western staples (curry, pad thai, etc) are all good.

Cheap for Yaletown and quantity
This is one of the best deals in Yaletown. $8 lunch including spring roll, salad, and a curry dish with rice of your choice. The portions are generous for the price. The first time I went I ordered the Thai platter and hated it (way too sweet). The second time I ordered the $8 curry lunch and it was decent. The curry was very rich and filling (don't eat there if you're on a diet).
The restaurant is clean enough for my liking, and the service is okay even when they're busy.

Never Disappointed
Went to Urban Thai Bistro last night and once again enjoyed a fabulous meal. Food was delicious. Recommendations by the waitress were ever so tasty too. Yellow Curry with chicken is delicious as was the beef and beans just to name a few. A nice touch to end the meal is the black sticky rice. We always find the service great. Worth a try. PS if you don't like it too spicy you just have to let them know. We ordered several dishes that had three chili peppers beside them on the menu but we asked for extra mild and that is how it was served. Not to worry, removing the spicyness (spelling???) does not remove the flavour.

Food was so-so... I always order their hot and sour soup, calamares and yellow curry for the "All you can eat" brunch. But man is their service the worst. The waitresses are a bunch of B****! They are beyond rude and unprofessional. They ALWAYS ALWAYS get tables and orders mixed up. Rude and dumb huh. Get the waiter to service your table.

Great tasting!
FOOD
I have been back over and over again for their dinner for two. Love the red chicken coconut curry (served in a coconut to boot) and spicy green beans and shrimp. The food has been consistent even after having the same dishes at least a dozen times

SERVICE
Usually quick to top up your drinks, and the food is out to the table quick. Other than that, standard stuff.

AMBIANCE
A bit on the dark and old-school side. I like the booth style seating, but the place feels like it needs a facelift. Also, not too sure why they have big screen TVs showing sports games...seems out of place. The music is nice...though one time the cd was skipping for about 10 minutes straight...it wasn't in your face obvious, but more that you were being tortured mentally;)

Dine out Vancouver 08
A friend of mine and I decided to try this place with the dine out van menu. At the cost of 15$, I had a tiny portion of shrimp cake as a starter, tiger prawns which only had 5 pieces of tiny prawns with a bowl of rice as the main course and a 1/3 of deep friend banana with tiny scoop of mango ice cream for desert. Which wasn't too bad until the waitress charged us $3.50 for two very tiny pots of hot tea. I liked their drink special though, 'Woman on Top', which had a nice blend of coconut milk and malibu along with some canned fruits. $51 for two after tip wasn't too bad considering it WAS a three course meal after all. But again, i can go to any other asian restaurant and get so much more for the same price.

Sub-par food
We have gone to Urban Thai Bistro twice, once for a regular meal and once for All you can eat at lunch on the weekend. Both times we were pretty disappointed. The food feels like a westernized take at Thai rather than the real thing.

In addition they stray considerably from Thai on the menu at points as well. For Yaletown, this is way below the average restaurant. For vancouver, this is not a very good Thai restaurant... i would suggest walking down two blocks to Simply Thai.

The AYCE was not worth it either, we left pretty unsatisfied.

Nothing Special
Tried this place with a few friends. We found the food to be fairly bland, really lacking something. The service was so so. We had to make a considerable effort to flag our waitress down even though the place was not that busy. The ambiance was good. Lots of exposed fir beams. A nice heritage building. As for the food and service, not recommended.

Urbane Bistro Indeed
We wondered into the Urban Thai Bistro on a damp and cold Sunday night and were greeted warmly and promptly by the staff. I was immediately struck by the wonderful interior that blends the Yaletown warehouse look, with a hip, Thai art-influenced decor. I really liked the layout of this restaurant. The menu lists a plethora of different dishes, but is quite hard to read with the distracting Thai flags splashed on every page.

One beef I have with Thai restaurants in Vancouver is the overall poor quality of the Pad Thai. I've traveled a fair bit in Thailand and never did I sample a tomato-based, over sweetened Pad Thai which seems to be all the rage here. Unfortunately, Urban Thai serves up the same old thing and it was a disappointment - ample serving size though. Our beef in green currey was excellent and was enough for two people (as was the rice order). The last dish was chicken with green beans and it was outstanding as well - this portion size was also more than enough.

The service was extremely friendly, attentive and prompt. Everything came piping hot and was well prepared and presented. I would definitely recommend the Urban Thai to anyone.

Great AYCE weekend lunch deal.
They don't serve everything in huge portions for the AYCE so it wouldn't result in wasted food and lets you try a bit of everything. The chicken in the tom kha gai is a little overcooked probably as it's left simmering the entire day but since it's in soup, it doesn't get intolerably dry to eat. The calamari and wings are indeed tastily deep fried with a sweet dip on the side. The pad thai's alright but it wasn't worth ordering again when I went back to try their regular dinner menu.

The steamed tilapia for dinner was tasty enough only if you pour or dip into the citrusy little bowl of sauce/soup and add the chilli's to get what you normally get pre-added/done during the preparation process in other Thai restaurants. Since we had too much food & had to pack to go & neglected to mix in the citrus sauce/soup, we ended up with a somewhat boring leftover steamed fish to eat the next day (tasted of a light veggie broth). The red curry duck typically served in a coconut was tasty enough except for the excessive fat. More fatty parts than there was meat. But that was alright just to have tasty curry sauce to go with rice. The satay is okay. The prices are good and not especially high for Yaletown. But overall, I think I'd be going to Chilli House by the water (their sister restaurant that's part of the Samba group?) over returning to this place as it wasn't anything special though not bad either.

Excellent Taste of Yaletown Menu like Dine out Vancouver
With so many options and restaurants to dine in this years Taste of Yaletown we decided to try the Urban Thai’s taste of Yaletown menu. Kind of a Dine Out Vancouver specially for Yaletown restaurants which has great value.
Décor is traditional with lots of wood but love the overall warmth of this place from the booths to the servers. Although we went with the Taste of Yaletown combo menu we were also unsure if the portions were going to be small based on $25 per person in Yaletown so we decided to order another appetizer. Ordered the Floating Market which was Tempura style prawns and crispy fried spinach with apple spicy sauce which was delicious.
On with the taste of Yaletown menu. We decided to try something we never tried before and opted for the Thai style short ribs and homemade thai tarts for our entrees went with the regular thai favourites a creamy red curry in a coconut and a prawns with cashew nuts. With the desserts, wow, by this time, we were stuffed and amazed by the overall value however were so tempted to try the coconut jello and the sticky rice, both of which were amazing. Overall a great dining experience and we’ll definitely be back !

great brunch
Friends took me here last week for brunch. $11.95 all you can eat off of a limited menu but it still had many great choices. I think this is one of the best values around and I think many people agree as it was lined up. I will definitely return for another brunch visit.

THAI one on !
Having already eaten at the other THAI Houses restaurant locations we decdied to THAI one on at this location. The server greeted us cheerfully and sat us at a booth inside as the sun was already down and getting too chilly to sit outside. The ambeince of this location was appealingly pleasent with high ceilings and exposed wooden beams and many trinkets of Thai origin deocrating every nook and cranny. Our waitress was a very cheery young Thai lady who spoke perfect english and willingly helped us with our Thai for an upcoming trip in December. She was full of information of What to see, Where to go, What to buy etc., etc. which bolstered our confidence for the trip ahead. The menu is very extensive and it was hard to decide what to order so we opted for the dinner for two instead of the regular 3 items off the menu. The spring rolls and chicken satay were very tasty as were the dipping sauces that came with them . The chicken curry( medium) was also very yummy served with fragrant white Thai rice. The Green beans and Prawns, which I am sure if served in Bangkok would be an entirely different taste, was suprisingly tasty,,,,the whole mixture combined on your plate made for some interestingly spicy and tangy cusine.
The Tom Yum Gai soup was VERY spicy, too much for me although Precious thought it was awesome,,she always has a palate for heated food. The dessert ,pretty typical for any asian cusine,,,is not extensive as we Sugar loving Canadians would like it but the Deep fried Banana's and Mango ice cream was enough to satisfy even the sweetest tooth.

All in all I would say this Thai House is a pretty solid bet, the prices might be a bit steeper than one or two of the other locations and the amount and quality of the food is very good. Not outstanding enough to make you stand up and yell to the rest of the patrons " This food is Awesome", but good enough to "ummmmmmm" yummy ! by .

This place is definatly worth a try for Thai food lovers.

Flamingbelly
I hate this cold weather. I have been looking for something that will warm by belly after work. Some co-workers and I drove by and decided to try this cozy looking restaurant. WoW!!! First what amazing service. Valet parking. Something only 5 star restaurants have. Very helpful on cold days. Headache find parking spaces dt. When we entered somebody helped us right away. The food selection is fantastic. We did not know what to order and the waitress helped us with our selection. We wanted something exotic and spicy and that's what we really received. We had the Pigs Jowl to start of with. Sounds weird but very tastey. Then we had Nork-Gra-Jok Thet (Ostrich), Tom Kah (Soup), Pla Pad Prig Khing (Sauteed Fish) along with a few other exoctic hard to pronounce foods. Every was so tastey it was unbeleavable. First time I ate and did not walk out feeling cold in this miserable Vancouver weather. If you like service, good food and staying warm you must try..

weekend lunch
Went to Urban Thai for lunch on a saturday and decided that the ayce special was the way to go if we wanted to sample a little of everything.

Ordered an appetizer of beef salad, chicken wings, spring rolls and calamari. I like the beef salad and the chicken wings. The springs rolls were okay, but I'm not a fan of the bean thread noodles in them (I prefer just vegetables) and the deep fried calamari was good (even if I don't find deep fried squid to be very "thai" :p )

For the main course, we ordered a little of the pad thai, pad see iw, and the pork and spinach in garlic sauce. The pork and spinach were very tasty. The pad see iw and pad thai were.... just okay. Both were a little more "sauce heavy" than I like.

Overall the weekend ayce is a very good value, and a great way to sample the menu.

AYCE lunch on the weekend
Food: had the all you can eat menu which is only available during the weekends. Everything was quite tasty but some items were disappointing - like the black rice dessert, the curry was not as good as I thought and the pad thai was odd, ok the first time around and little better the second time. Calamari and wings were tasty. It's nice that they do cook the items to order but at the same time, there isn't any consistency either.

Service: I thought our waitress was little surly but other than, it was ok. She did get a little better by the end and the other servers seemed nice. They were quite accomodating when our party was cut down by 2, so they were able to move us to a smaller booth which was nice.

Ambiance: Really quite nice and relaxed, and not at all tacky like some places. I love the comfy booths - hard to get in and out and but cushy.

I would probably return again if it wasn't so out of the way for myself. Worth the drive from Delta? No, not really but if I'm already in the area, then I wouldn't mind going back. For $12 AYCE, it's worth it but I really wish there was more on the menu.

AYCE Weekend Lunch
Food: The menu contains about 20 items. There's a good variety. At our table some of the favourites were the beef salad, calamari, green chicken currie, blk rice dessert. The food is made to order and is not buffet style so it's hot and freshly cooked.

Service: We went w/ a group of ppl that couldnt read the menu and the waiter was really patient and just bought us a little of everything. Everyone was really attentive and polite.

Ambiance: Nice decor and cleanly maintained. Nice mix of music from english to chinese to thai.

Overall: I would recommend anyone to give this a try. For around $11/person for AYCE lunch it's pretty good deal.

Probably the best Thai in the city
We were delighted to have discovered this place when we moved to the Yaletown area. Urban Bistro Thai has always been reliable for their service and amazing thai food which is probably the best in the city. Its also one of the few asian joints where you can enjoy watching the canucks game while eating pad thai and curry and enjoying a singha beer.

A Yaletown Favourite
Having been a regular here the past couple of years this place keeps on getting better. They have added some very unique menu items which my fiancee and I can't get enough of . Try the Thai Tuna Fry and Jungle Curry. They're both amazing. The tuna fry melts in your mouth and leaves you wanting more. Its kind of like tempura but with spicy thai tempura sauce with apple slices. The jungle curry is prepared without the coconut milk and if you love curry you 'll love the way Urban Thai makes this dish. Solid service all around.

Their take-out curry sauces have MSG-type additives
Went there for dinner on a Saturday night. I find their Thai food to be quite average. They sell their Thai curry sauces for home use in gift packages as well as individually. I purchased one to try out and found it to be laced with an MSG type additive. After eating it at home, I was really dehyrdrated and it had an unpleasant after effect. I would never eat the take out sauce again.

Take out thai
Try the lettuce wraps and the green curry chicken. You won't be disappointed! YUMMY
The delivery was a little slow... 45 min-1 hr but food is fresh and tasty. If you are looking for some good thai food on a rainy night then I highly recommend the Urban Thai Bistro.

Best Weekend Buffet So Far
We just went to Urban Thai with a group of friends last Sunday for their All You Can Eat Buffet. Actually, we've been here at least 2 times before, other times we went mostly to Thai House in Lonsdale Quay (same franchise). This location in Yale Town is one of the nicer Thai House. The food came pretty quick and they taste just right, it's like ordering a gourmet food but not the price. My friends were very impressed with the quality and taste.

So if you're up for a good Thai Food...go to Urban Thai...which I think is better than the Thai House in Lonsdale Quay. I love spices so I like it strong, pungent and spicy, but if you like Thai Food on the mellow side, then go to Thai House. If you decide to go to Urban Thai don't forget to eat their dessert, black rice with coconut milk (last time we went the rice was undercook but other than that everything else were great).

Last weekend was perfect and definitely will try again. Great atmosphere inside and it's closer to where we live. Guys, their weekend deal is a great bargain at merely $11 per person and all the meals are cooked to order. It's cheaper than ordering a la carte.

Great lunch specials, not so great for dinner
After really enjoying the lunch there (spring roll, simple salad, main dish and rice for under $10), I had to take my boyfriend back for dinner one night. Unfortunately, the food wasn't nearly as good (even though I ordered the same exact dish I had enjoyed so much for lunch during my previous dining experience there!). There were only 2 other tables dining, service was not very good for dinner. I thought the vegetarian dishes my boyfriend ordered for dinner were especially bad tasting. I was dissapointed and a little embarassed I had praised this restaurant so much to him. I would go back for the(meat) lunch special but not for dinner.

Decent Thai at a good price
The menu is comprehensive and includes plenty of pictures, which I like. We chose fish cakes, and steamed tapioca dumplings to start, followed by a green chicken curry and a traditional pad thai.

The fish cakes arrived first. They were a little larger than I expected, and had a pleasant soft texture, without being too chewy as some can be. The sauce accompanying them was particularly good - a sweet chilli sauce with crushed peanuts which was very tasty. The steamed tapioca dumplings were slightly scary on first encounter. They looked like a giant lump of frogspawn. The texture was a little weird too -I didn't find it unpleasant, but the combination of appearance and texture put off my girlfriend. The filling of minced chicken and other ingredients was sweet and peanuty. Overall they were pretty good.

Main courses arrived in reasonable time. The portions were very generous, especially the pad thai which could easily have fed two people! The balance of flavours was certainly not perfect in this dish, and could have done with a little more chilli and a little less peanut. However it was enjoyable, and did not skimp on the shrimp or tofu (although the shrimp were a little chewy - perhaps overcooked). My girlfriend's green curry was good - perhaps a little too creamy, but spiced just right. There was plenty of chicken, and the quality was good. With an ample serving of rice, this dish defeated my girlfriend. Neither of us finished all our food.

Service throughout was minimal, but decent. No real problems though, and no long waits. The bill came to $42 which we thought was good value for the quality of the food (and the quantity).

Overall then, decent Thai food to enjoy at a very reasonable price. Not going to blow your socks off, but probably not going to disappoint if you go with reasonable expectations for the money. We'd go back.
