We figured it was a large enough restaurant and it was early enough in the evening to get a table without a reservation. Well, we figured wrong! The place wasn't packed (maybe less than half full), yet we were not granted a table. First off, I (the only white person in my group) approached the host to ask about a table for 7. He ignored me, and proceeded to speak Cantonese to my friend (who didn't speak Cantonese), which I found extremely disrespectful. (I found out later, he did speak english, he just chose not to) Then there was confusion ontop of confusion... on top of... more confusion! Thanks to the language barrier! Can we have a table? 730, you say? We can have a table at 730? no? What did you mean by 730 then? After speaking with more than three hosts (none of which wanted to speak English), it turned out that we could have a table, but only if we left by 730 because of previously booked reservations. Fair enough. But the process to arrive at that was incredible and extremely unnecessary! Overall, the food was ok, value was average, and the speed of service was excellent (because they wanted us out asap). However, the quality of service and professionalism was awful. The place shouldn't even bother with english menus! |

We ordered a beef and egg rice in a pot and it came in quite a big portion especially for only $6.50. We also ordered soy sauce spinach and beef but the beef was a little hard. Their braised pork intestine was a little bland in flavour and very fatty. I'm not sure of the name of this dish but it's crunchy beef throat with onion was special especially I've never tried crunchy beef throat before. We also ordered salty shredded chicken which was a little salty for me but perfect for my bf. For me, this visit isn't as good as last month but for my bf he thinks it's just as good. |

The traffic became so inconvenient last year that I avoided any store on Cambie St. Although now I know that the road isn't always jammed and not inconvenient anymore, I still stopped going to the area. Tonight however, my bf and I decided to try this restaurant for it's late night snacks. We ordered fried noodle, some veggie, deep fried pork intestines, and deep fried pomfret fish. The food were done great and also in cantonese / HK style. It's great to finally come back here for food and also had some pretty good snacks. I would definitely recommend people to come here for late night snacks as they close at 2 am. I will b back for sure. Note: The reviewer has submitted a more recent review for this restaurant. They have a good selection of food, service in terms of refilling soup, changing your plates, those were always very promptly done. I'll give them that.
Service on the serving side, I've always find them to be a bit snobby. But, ah well, long established restaurant. I can deal with that.
Last week we had a meal that with family. The meal was solid, food's always good. Good soup base, very tasty.Llike I said, plate changing service was prompt. Until I picked up a piece of cooked egg, and found something hard in my mouth. I spit it out and found it to be a nice shiny bug the size of my little finger nail, legs all intact and all. Grossed out, we call over a waiter and showed it to him. They got the manager, looked at it, said sorry, asked us to wait.
I was still okay with it, grossed out, but not angry. Then another manager type person came over, brought a fresh black bug with him to show me. "Oh, we think it's one of these, they are sometimes in the veggies." ... indeed? I really needed to see that bug again, knowing that it is so easy to grab me another one? They offered to make a plate of the veggie and the soup free. ... The way they were handling this was as if having a bug in your soup is the most natural thing in the world and I am just fussing. I don't know I find it hard to have an apetite when bugs come in where they don't belong.
I guess we'll not be going back again. |

Given how busy they are, I'll give them good marks for service. It was incredibly hectic, and even though they occasionally required a reminder, we got everything, no mistakes, in very good time.
Now about the food. I'm very ambivalent when it comes to hot pot. I mean ... who's cooking? How much effort is it to procure good raw ingredients? That being said, this is one hot pot place that actually might make a pass in my books. They have very inventive and unique soup bases. (The one we had qualified as a meal in itself, so I don't mind paying for that). As others have mentioned, all the ingredients were top notch and well "prepared" (if you could call it that). Maybe the best in town. The quantitiy won't leave you wanting either.
What can I say? Given that I'm not a big fan of hot-pot ... it's hard to recommend if you know how to cook, but if you are in the mood for one or have never tried it before, this is the place to go. |

It's the first hotpot restaurant in vancouver & it's still going strong! The price here is probably 20% higher than any other hotpot restaurant but for the freshness, quality & quantity the price doesnt seem as bad as it is. They have the best cuts of meat. The fatty beef is to die for. They have live prawns, fish, geoduck, lobster, all the usual delish chinese must haves. Lots of amazing soup bases to try and the food is so fresh and the stock is so well done, minimal sauce is needed. Definetely well worth visitng on a cold rainy vancouver evening. The decor is getting a bit aged, but still very clean and neat. The service is chippery & speedy & v efficient. The only downside to this restaurant at the moment is the insane construction taking place in the area. A must go for hot pot connoseuirs! |

The prices are a little higher than other hot pot places, but it's worth the price. The food tastes great, the place is clean, and the service is quick and friendly. I went with 3 other friends, and we all agreed that this was better than expected! |
